Waiver Priority based on current league standings (potential OBJ waiver) (1 Viewer)

I had a hunch, lol. I'm thinking maybe, just maybe OBJ and his agent are playing hardball and trying to force them to release him without modifying the contract, which would poison the well so to speak and that would allow him to get through waivers unclaimed then he becomes an unrestricted FA.

I don't know that from any source. Just speculation on my part

Your opinion, but it makes sense. Why else take this long? They are trying to pinch pennies and OBJ is trying to get paid.

I’m not certain but I think the team has some ability to convert money from base to bonus without having the player’s consent - as long as there’s no financial prejudice to the player.

Yeah that would make sense, but it seems there need to be some tweaking to make it work unless there's no limitation on how much they can move from base to bonus. No idea tho.

I am pretty sure I have heard that before also. I think it was Pat Kirwin on Sirius about 10 years ago.

It's tricky. We almost need to hope he and his agent play hardball, try to force the Browns to keep the contract as-is (or close to it), making him less attractive to all the teams on the waiver list.

If he restructures his deal, the odds of him falling all the way to us is really low. If he doesn't, he likely clears, Cleveland pays him, we sign him outright as a FA.

But Cleveland would have to agree.

The limitation would be that the base has to still have the minimum salary for the players number of years in the league.

That would make sense. If it's that straightforward, then I'm not understanding what the delay is. Second thoughts maybe?

If that’s all that is required, and they don’t need his approval, I wonder what the hold up could be.

Sounds like they just wanna screw him out of a game at this point. He isn't playing this Sunday because they dragged their feet on this.

I hope we can get him because we need a competent WR. We can’t make it far in the playoffs with what we have now. Also I’d like for us to get a vet WR on the PS and have another body on stand by
