Waiver Priority based on current league standings (potential OBJ waiver) (1 Viewer)

It's tricky. We almost need to hope he and his agent play hardball, try to force the Browns to keep the contract as-is (or close to it), making him less attractive to all the teams on the waiver list.

If he restructures his deal, the odds of him falling all the way to us is really low. If he doesn't, he likely clears, Cleveland pays him, we sign him outright as a FA.

But Cleveland would have to agree.
Crazy. This is almost exactly what happened. Huge for us.

Based on the low cost, I think his agent would have to think that most teams are potential claimants. Is he going just start calling all of the ones OBJ doesn't want to play for? I think it's a pretty silly idea.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s that hard lol. Matter of fact, I can a see a player easily tell the entire league don’t pick me up, let me choose where I want to go.

I feel like it’s been done before

Okay who? It doesn’t really matter, a waiver claim gets the player’s rights and with no risk. He doesn’t show up, fine - but he can’t go anywhere else.

Saints do not have the cap room to claim him. They would have to hope he clears waivers.
Looks like Beckham’s restructured contract only costs $1 million against the cap. Now it’s a matter of do other teams view him as a necessary addition so he can fall down the waiver order and be claimed at 23rd by the Saints

The Browns announced Friday that they released Beckham, who must test the waiver wire like every other vested veteran across the league after the annual trade deadline passes. And his restructured contract means any team that claims him will have to count right around $1 million, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. That’s affordable for just about every team in the NFL including the cash-strapped Saints once you factor in the cost of adding him (which would push another contract off their books). New Orleans is under the cap by $1,098,472, per ESPN’s Field Yates, but that number would change by Beckham’s contract replacing a bottom-of-the-depth chart player like Montravius Adams (saving $802,778) or Jalyn Holmes ($715,556).

By the end of the day that had changed.

Oh, idk. That’s neither here or there.

My original question that you replied on was just simply would you sign a player who straight up tells you to your face “I don’t want to play for your team” that’s all

Ahh I see now, Jeremy Fowler’s tweet was at 8:40am cst this morning when they were still in talks and Schefter’s tweet was after it became official.

Only WR needy teams in front of the Saints with the cap room to outright claim his 7+ mill cap hit, and would realistically claim, are the Eagles and Patriots.

Everyone else in front on the waiver, like the Colts, Chiefs, and 49ers, will have to restructure contracts just like the Saints and push a handful of their players’ cap hits forward next few years, which they probably don’t want to do just to claim OBJ.

Eagles are 3-5 and know he won’t re-sign there so I think they won’t claim. Patriots could make a wildcard push if they claimed him so they may be the only one in front that could put in a claim.

I’d restructure players for space and put in the claim to avoid competing with the Packers, Rams, Raiders, and Buccaneers in FA negotiations if he clears. The Ravens have $11 million in cap space and are behind the Saints in waiver. They will definitely claim him if the Saints plan to wait for him to clear

If he clears my guess is he winds up with Seattle or Las Vegas on a vet minimum. If Jameis hadn’t gotten hurt, I’d guess us.

If they could have signed him off waivers for the vet minimum, then absolutely. But to essentially rent him for half a season for over $7 million? I can't imagine any team wanting to do that. Maybe could happen, but idk.

Thanks chuck.

Why superchuck? Just curious

NOB because it was the first city we arrived in when we moved to the U.S

That's cool - your name is way more meaningful than mine.

It was a long time ago and I'm not 100% sure but I think it was sort of that I thought it was funny putting super on the front of an ordinary name - like "Superdave Osborn", and there's a band that sort of sounds like superchuck that was kind of funny, and the 500 is probably subconsciously related to auto racing. I don't think anyone has ever asked. Ha
