What do you use to shave? (2 Viewers)

I had the norelco advantage years ago (the one that spits goop on your face while you're shaving) And, as I said, I've got a braun now. I've had a couple others, but none of them ever got me as close as a blade.

Regarding the straight razor, I've got a pocket knife that I've shaved with (kinda like Vin Diesel in "Chronicles of Riddick") It was plenty sharp enough, but the nicks were brutal. It looked like I'd stuck my head in a burlap bag with two cats in it.

Therein lies the problem. You're supposed to use one cat.

Wow. I expected at least half the responses to be electric. I used to use a blade but always wanted to get an electric. So I treated myself about 7 years ago to a nice Panasonic electric razor. I would not go back to a blade if you paid me. I have not had a razor bump or discomfort in 7 years. It takes me less than 30 seconds to shave if I have shaved in the last 3 days. And my skin is still as soft as it was at 23. And it costs me nothing after the initial expense.

You guys seriously need to check out an electric razor. Dollar for dollar, one of the best investments I have ever made.

I can't use electric razors, no matter how much. Even when I get my hair cut and the ladies go to use the norelco on me I have to stop them. I get razor bumps only with electric razors.

Ironically, if I use shaving cream I get red splotches on my face (I've tried a metric crap ton of different ones) so I just use water

I had a Braun and a Panasonic. A wet shave with blades is closer.

I don't know anyone who uses an electric shaver any more...

i use the Fusion and i really don't care how much it costs...it's the most comfortable

i get 10+ shaves out of each blade...so about 40 per pack of blades....40 cents a shave is fine with me

I'm with you. I love my Fusion. Its the closest shave I get.

Crazy. I was in Walgreens two days ago looking at blades and thinking about how expensive they were and how I should start a thread about it. I would up not buying any, and just electing to use the two more that I have left. Looking into this wetshaving thing.

My daily driver is now the new Fusion Proglide. Going from Mach 3 to Fusion I didn't notice much of a difference, and the 'Power' feature I feel is a gimmick. But I think this new Proglide blade is a quantum leap. I don't mind spending the extra money on the best blades available, because this is my face after all! I'll save the money by not drinking soda. They are touting thinner blades and less pull on the hairs. There is valid criticism in some of the features as marketing and gimmickry, but Gillette does spend a HUGE amount on R&D compared to the other companies.

I've always had a difficult time with shaving, but I learned a few tips watching some youtube videos that have helped me get a much closer shave without razor burn or ingrown hairs. First I put a hot towel on my face if I haven't just stepped out of the shower. Then I whip up some shaving cream with Proraso, brush and bowl. Cheap and works much better than gel in the can. I make a first pass going with the grain as light as possible, almost no pressure at all. Then I re-lather and make a second pass, still no pressure, but at more aggressive angles to the grain. Not directly against the grain though, I get too many cuts doing that. The goal is to reduce the beard with each pass, using no pressure eliminates ingrown hairs and razor burn. Now I feel like the guy in American Psycho describing his daily cleansing routine.

A couple of days ago I would have said Edge gel
but in an attempt to keep from being frowned upon..

Mach 3 Turbo. Shave daily with Barbasol (after getting out of the hot shower-- this is important-- it softens the beard). Replace blade cartridge once a month, usually at the turn of the month (easy to remember).

Simple, effective.

For those of us with a woman or two in the house, a month is unrealistic. I'll put in a new blade, and I swear within 2 days, it's like she planed down a door or something with it. Used it to trim concrete. All I know is: if I walk away from that razor, the next time I use it, it's gonna hurt.
