What Head-Coach Candidates Are Dallas, Jacksonville, and Las Vegas Considering (1 Viewer)

Yes, only two teams left, and it appears that Dallas may be close, so we will be the only game in town.

Though interviewing Weaver and Kafka satisfies the Rooney Rule, I consider both serious candidates. I heard Ross Jackson say yesterday that the pecking order seems to be McCarthy, Rizzi, Brady, and then Weaver and Kafka.

What's bothering me is that a lot of these teams have "had their guy" and went and got them. The Bears with Johnson, Jets with Glenn, Jags with Coen and Pats with Vrabel. All great coaching candidates and they went out and got them. What are we doing? We were first to have a vacancy, there is no clear front runner, Loomis said they didn't start the search until the season was over, and we've only had an in person interview with Rizzi (yes, I know there was a storm). We had a head start and are dead last. This has to be the weirdest coaching search ever.

Or maybe we do have a guy and they are still coaching. But I don't think they do. It's very strangest to me.

I may be a loan wolf in this, but Rizzi's tenure as interim head coach should disqualify him IMO. He made some good changes staff wise for example that improved the Dline, but the in game adjustments were just downright horrible. He made 1 good decision, and that was replacing Haener at halftime with Rattler. But every game, as opposing coaches made changes, Rizzi and co did not. Plus the game management was just as horrible as it was under Dennis Allen.

My intuition tells me that the next 3+ years won't wield different results on the win/loss factor that we achieved with Dennis Allen if Rizzi is head coach.

I believe Kafka and Weaver are set for the weekend, then McCarthy early next week.

Don’t think he’s drafted one per se but he did recommend Aaron Brooks to us and we all know that even though he wasn’t a superstar, MM had him playing very well at many points.

Outside of that, in terms of starters, they were typically already there when he arrived.

Matt Flynn, Cooper Rush are a couple of backup names I can think of. They both had their moments but nothing to write home about.
McCarthy did sign Taysom Hill as an UDFA and then tried to sneak him on to the practice squad, not expecting anyone to claim him off of waivers.

The Saints knew that, so maybe the Saints weren't more interested in any of those guys than the others they have been pursing. Maybe the Saints knowing that all three coaches were leaning heavy to signing with each of those teams made the Saints feel as thought they could take their time and be thorough, instead of rushing and panicking to get "the one coach to rule them all."

What are we doing? We were first to have a vacancy, there is no clear front runner,...
Sucks to be on the outside looking in, but the Saints hiring committee no doubt has these coaches ranked. The Saints not letting anyone know how they have ranked each coach does not mean they haven't.

If you were the GM, what actions would you have taken to start searching for a new coach during the middle of the season?

This has to be the weirdest coaching search ever.
I don't see it as weird at all. They did the same thing last year with their OC search. The Saints are doing what they did last year. Fans and whose who "report" sports "news" are reacting the same way as last year.

The Saints are one of the more tight lipped organizations in regards to inner workings and decision making. The not knowing is I think what some people have a really hard time being comfortable with, so they fill in the blanks with speculation which is shaped by their perceptions and beliefs.

Or maybe we do have a guy and they are still coaching. But I don't think they do. It's very strangest to me.
Don't you want the team to go into each interview with an open mind and consideration for each candidate?

Or do you want them to have already decided and just conduct interviews for the sake of conducting interviews?
