Do you honestly believe Loomis has had a great last 5 years as GM? Do you think it's crazy that some people have a problem with what he's done the last 5 years and want to talk about it?

It's not personal. He hasn't done a good job recently. When he was crushing it people had "Make It Happen Loomis" T-Shirts made. I bought one and wore it for years. But that was then and now it's different.

A lot has happened in the last 5 years some in his control and some out of it.

If you've been paying attention, we have learned that ML does what the HC asks of him.

At the end of DB's career when his arm was starting to fail him, SP had ML push it for another shot. We came up short and DB retired, COVID killed the cap for a season which derailed their salary cap strategy. Shortly after that SP quit and on his way out gave the recommendation of his DA.

DA made some bad personnel decisions, that's on DA, not ML. Remember, pay attention to who is making the personnel decisions, it's the HC, not ML, ML handles the contracts.

ML took the heat for the CJGJ trade, but looking back, DA wanted him gone no matter what. By the time the trade occurred, his trade value was tanked and teams knew this.

Baun is a more recent example, DA not finding him playing time. We could have re-signed him, that wasn't the issue. Playing time was and that is on the HC.

We need to start putting the blame where is belongs and not just b/c someone doesn't give the interviews up to the expectations of some fans.

People learn from their mistakes. There has been some questionable moves/nonmoves, but I'll say the end of season press conference and everything since then indicates to me that ML has reset going back to the 2005-2006 offseason to revamp the team leadership which will revamp the personnel as we go forward.

You had this same smartly attitude when I was saying fire DA in his 2nd yr. How did that work out?

Lol, want a cookie?

This team's issues begin and end with drafting and talent acquisition.

They haven't had a draft you could even call average since 2017.

Whether that's more on Loomis or the personnel department as a whole is debatable.

You are like a gigantic Loomis excuse machine. It's actually quite impressive.

But you do realize that the HC works FOR the GM and not the other way around, right? All of the things you put on Payton and DA are things that Loomis could easily have said no to. It was HIS choice to do those things and like it or not, he doesn't get a pass. He is the boss, he is responsible for the situation the team is in. You're passing the buck to the guys that are no longer with the team when it wasn't their job in the first place.

And if Loomis goes back to his 2006 mindset and succeeds, I will jump in line to give him credit for doing so like I gave him credit for the first run. But this whole give him credit when things are good and blame someone else when things are bad is NOT it.

Yeah, say what you want about Loomis not realizing when it was time to move on from DA. Say what you want about what it may have cost the Saints going into the season with a head coach who CLEARY didn't have what it takes to be a head coach. But as far as GM's go, he's the type of GM most fans should love.

1.) He listens to the coach and staff regarding personnel. As long as he hires people who know what they're doing, this is a good a thing. He's not getting in the way on the field like Jerry Jones does to the Cowboys or Bill O'brien did for the Texans.

2.) He's willing to spend money. There's plenty of fandoms wasting away with owners/GMs who only have excuses when it comes to the purse strings. If the coach wants something, he'll pay for it. He'll find a way. I know plenty of fans that wish their GMs had the pull Loomis has to spend money where it's needed. That's never been a problem under Loomis. The Steelers could be 1 player away and that player could be begging to playing in Pittsburgh, but if he cost too much, it's not happening. I remember those years when we all wanted the Saints to go get a type flight WR, it wasn't because Loomis wasn't willing. It was because Payton was convinced he didn't need to do it. See #1. He'll go get a player AND he'll spend to keep a player. Which brings me to #3.

3.) There's some fans that get to see their best players walk away to other teams year after year. They can't build talent because they're never retaining talent. He's a far cry from the Raiders in that department. The Saints do as good as job as any team in retaining their players ESPECIALLY if the coach wants to keep them in New Orleans.

I get the slack Loomis is catching right now. It was painfully obvious DA was horrible and he didn't budge, was forced to do it even. But that's behind the Saints now. In choosing Moore, he's shown me that he's still willing to push to win. I'm absolutely ecstatic that he decided to take the risk on a long term solution for the head coaching job than go with the MM stopgap solution. Going with Moore tells me that Loomis isn't settling for the quick, lazy path. He's looking at the long term despite the possibility it could be bumpier. As long as he has the right guy, Loomis can make it happen.

Agreed. And I think that making Moore the choice over McCarthy, and the rumor they told Moore he will not have high expectations for the first year, seems to suggest that despite what he said in the year end press conference, he realizes there are issues with the team and that Loomis is willing to shake things up to fix it. Hopefully he carries that over into fixing the cap and not wasting draft picks trading up in the draft.

Okay, you know everything. I'll remember to bow down to the king.

I think we can put the teeky torches away, he's righting the ship...
Why? Just because he hired a new coach? You can't ignore his actions over the past 4 years. The old man needs to step down and bring in guys who aren't AARP eligible.

That wasn't the question, though. The question was about his ceiling. He hired Sean Payton, and Payton won a SB while Loomis was the Gam. So that HAS to still be taken into consideration when talking about his ceiling.

How an elite FO operates. Please stop making excuses for lucky Mick

His ceiling is Super Bowl as it is a historical fact. That does not mean that it has been his recent trajectory. It also doesn't mean that he couldn't do it again in the future. He has to make the right choices and then get some luck.
