What other coaches really think about DA and the Saints. (2 Viewers)

Truthfully, what quote is he supposed to say? "There are only 32 NFL tight end jobs and I was lucky enough to be able to stay in the NFL because the Saints offered me my only opportunity." I wouldn't put much weight into his statement. I'm not saying it can't be honest, but he's not going to come out and say this was my only option.
He wouldn’t have to say anything, if he didn’t like DA, or didn’t think DA would be good to work for, he would’ve just told his agent to talk to other teams and not the Saints instead of telling him to consider the Saints first.

I think DA is a probably a high character guy and a quality person, and people have good things to say about him. I’m still not convinced that makes him a good head coach.
I think DA is too careful and PC's play calling is too predictable. DA needs to be more commanding and needs to be more emotional with both the players and the coaches.
Like SP said after he won the SB: "You have to have balls to play this game".

Of course he has nothing bad to say about DA and the ownership: he will never be held accountable for anything in NO. :hihi:

Really, what else is he going to say to the web staff of the team that just hired him? And, an NFL coaching job is not something you read about in the want-ads; it is a very small circle with a vey limited number of jobs. NFL types said good things about Rob Marinelli and Rich Kotite too. Same goes for Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells types.

Here's a quote from the article:
"He was, and still is, a very smart football coach, high energy guy, and someone that – even with me as an older guy, and I'd been coaching at that point 17 years in college ball, so that was my 18th year overall in coaching – I was still drawn to him because of his energy and his knowledge of the game and his passion of the game."

When has DA been a "high energy guy"? Does he look like a high energy guy on the sidelines? In practice? At pressers?

Another quote:
"When you look at the history of [the TE] position here, going back to Shockey and Jimmy Graham, who I coached, there's been a number of great tight ends," he said. "So there's a great tradition of having very good tight ends here."

The history of of the TE position in NO is Jimmy Graham; he's the only TE I can remember the Saints developed since Bobby Brenner who was "very good". Shockey was here at the tail end of his career (2 seasons). Same goes for Watson (3 seasons), who is a much better person and leader than he was a TE. Since Watson left, the TE position has been mediocre at best. For "very good" TE play before Shockey, you'll have to go to Wesley Walls, who came to NO as a FA for 2 years, but that was almost 30 years ago. Between Shockey and Walls, the only 2 TE's I remember are Cam Cleeland and Boo Williams, the former because he got his eye socket fractured when he was hit in the face with a bag of coins during practice, the latter because he was dubbed "Boo".

DA may be a great guy, and great/easy to work with; I don't know, because I don't know him personally or work for the Saints. The only comments I can make about DA revolve around the product on the football field, and the product on the football field has not been good in NO, and wasn't good in Oakland.

What....no mention of the great Henry Childs?

What you expect him to say coming aboard?

"My new HC is a moron who, IMHO, barely knows Defense and has been riding the coattails of his lockdown corners and heady linebackers while the D Line and Safeties have regressed horribly over the last season and some change....and don't get me started on that 1980s era offense he tried to trot out there....but anyway, I look forward to looking like a genius in practice week in - week out while I work to expose that soft middle of his basic arse defense, maybe he'll think I'm doing great and give me an unsolicited raise"

No one here said DA is an idiot or not a nice guy. The general consensus is that he's at least a good defensive guy. What he isn't, nor what he hasn't been, is a quality head coach with the tools to lead a team. It doesn't help that he has basically the same demeanour of guy on the other side in Pete and they both just look overmatched and overwhelmed. When Payton was here that was fine, he was the Alpha and it was alright having them play second fiddle. Sean made the tough decisions, put them in positions that were needed and left the heavy stuff off their plate. I'm sure he's a likable guy, I'm sure he has a pretty good defensive mind. I don't think anyone is doubting that. He is what he is and a head coach he is not. The sooner Mickey and Gayle realize that the better off we and he will be.

How about, let's just draft two RBs early and whatever happens with AK happens. Drama is a killer to teams that are struggling. Let this play out, but this team has to have a plan for MT and AK. My plan would be another big WR in the draft, two RBs and two DTs if Onyemata leaves, get Carr and we are good to go. Then whatever happens, we can move forward.
You lost me once you got to the Carr lol.

Bingo. Fascinating to me that this isn’t known lol.

Bingo winner winner chicken dinner. I’m glad he’s a nice guy but I don’t want Mr. Congeniality as coach.

Action speaks louder than other peoples words

.283 win %..... 4 year head coach...DA is not a child.....it's past time to put up ....don't care about feel good quotes. This guy needs to figure it out and just win. period ..earn your respect by delivering the goods.

DA has the Defense under control, he just has to find the right coaches to right the ship on the offensive side, similar to the task Payton had with finding the right DC.

Clancy Barone - Saints TE Coach

I kinda think that the rest of the league has a higher opinion of DA than Saints fans do.
Thats easy, thats because so many of us remember pre-payton football and last year was pre-payton football. The constant shooting themselves in the foot, not being able to get out their own way. Pre-Payton, Loomis wasn't very good, had horrible, catastrophic drafts, made bad moves up until he made a great move by hiring Payton. If this season doesn't work out, fans are coming for Gayle Benson for allowing this to go on for another year. Either we fans are gonna look stupid because DA turned it around or we fans are gonna be mad as heck for letting this go into year 2, there is no inbetween.
