What other coaches really think about DA and the Saints. (1 Viewer)

I get that. But, when you combine that with things like DA and Carr staying in touch, and all the talk about DA being a head coach one day when he was still a DC under Payton, maybe he's a little better than some give him credit for. Honestly, I'm not ready to say one way or the other, yet. But I like his coaching hires, and I think the coaching staff is better this year than last year.
Totally agree. It's too soon to call it one way or the other. Going by what we saw last year and with the Raiders, no he doesn't seem like the ideal HC. But I'm going to meet him in the middle on last season. The man couldn't catch a break to save his life. The offseason was going relatively smooth and then boom, like a week before the opener things went sideways and didn't stop going sideways.

We'll see what he's capable of this year if the team has better luck with injuries. A healthy, more consistent O line and a full compliment of receivers is bound to help the QB regardless of who lines up under Center. And I have faith in him when it comes to the defense. They really battled through injuries and had that thing going the last 10 games of the season.

Don't you think how a person responds under non-ideal conditions is a critical evaluation tool as well? I mean that's what distinguishes guys like Payton and Tomlin from other coaches. Even in their most challenging seasons, they are able to achieve above-average status.

Oh it's absolutely a critical evaluation tool. The great ones can take lemons and make lemonade. But I don't think DA is great. There was no way he was going to do much of anything last year with the hand he was dealt. I don't think he'll ever be that guy. I just want to see what he's capable of next season with (hopefully) no excuses. I'm not expecting much but we'll see.

The problem with DA is we have had a top 3 HC for almost two decades and we are all spoiled..

Here's reality folks..
Now if you asked who I'd take as coach right now out of anyone in the NFL

Mike Tomlin is a coaching genius.

The problem with DA is that he was hired to maintain the culture and it only took him 6 weeks to make it obvious that he was unable to continue the "culture".

He's a continuity guy that can't maintain continuity, so now we're letting him build the staff in his image which is starting to look like his Raiders staff. He's getting the band back together except the problem is that the band is "Milli Vanilli"

I don't think expecting a winning season is being spoiled. Also, the whole premise of hiring DA was continuity, and Loomis is the one who put that expectation out there. This idea that we should except mediocracy is a losing mentality.

In music we've seen bands lose a key member and try to keep it together. Sometimes it works like with AC/DC but more often than not you're looking at a situation like The Doors without Jim Morrison or Skynyrd without Van Zandt. At best we're looking at Van Halen with Sammy Hagar.

That would be hilarious if DA's superpower is coaching relationships. Having a game manager HC with a stacked coaching house. Has any team succeeded at this before?

Good question. The only coaches that come to mind not only had good staffs but loaded rosters.

LMAO. Dude wasn't even in the league in 2022. Yeah, DA is so wonderful because he's out of the league and DA is getting him back in.

We've hired a bunch of failed retreads.

While your statement is probably accurate, I wouldn’t expect Barone to start off in his new role publicly bashing his boss.

And if I were an opposing coach, I would love Dennis Allen too. Id do anything to keep him employed.

That was legit funny. Like what is the guy supposed to say, "I appreciate the opportunity to get back to the league but I wish a better coach would've hired me. I don't respect Dennis Allen as a man and I respect him even less as a coach. But them's the breaks. I'll do my time and then see what happens."

There is no Police without Sting. NWA was over when Cube and Dre left. We lost Sean and Drew, Loomis needs to accept that, but he won't
