Whats something you’ve noticed about this new offense? (2 Viewers)

They score a lot..... which is fine by me. If there is another Carr/Rasheed long ball hook up for a TD, the Superdome will blow the top off. Heck, even if there is a long ball hook up to Olave, the WhoDat nation will be dancing until Mardi Gras. That has been fun to watch the first two weeks. And if it happens again this week, well, just WOW!!! Loving this new offensive schemes. Kubiak has done a great job of playing to the offensive line strength and masking the weaknesses.

For me, if I had to point out one single thing, because there are many, I would say it’s the rhythm of the running game. For the longest, watching some other teams games - especially Shanahan and his disciples’ teams - was frustrating, because running the ball just seemed a lot easier for them and it wasn’t necessarily because of WHO was running or WHO they were running behind, but more so because of the play design and the timing of when the plays were called. We obviously had many great moments under SP and a few with PC where we ran well, but it just seemed so inconsistent, and towards the end, bad and abnormal.

We seem normal now. Things just flow better now. Even a guy like Jamaal Williams is suddenly balling after looking like he doesn’t belong in the NFL last year.

I used to see teams running on like 3rd and 6 and getting easy first downs and knew that would never be us, but here we are, doing those things like this successfully like those other teams were doing.

It’s been very fun to watch unfold. Whether it’s the motion, constant counter-action, the zone blocking scheme, the significantly increased threat of playaction, or whatever, running just looks way easier and more crisp now.

For me one of the main things I’ve noticed is our receivers look open. What I mean is the last year or two SP was here and the years after he left it always seemed like accurate passing was the key because our WRs always had DBs stuck to them like glue. It was always frustrating because the other teams WRs always looked open. This year whether it’s the motion or it’s the route design our players have 3 to 5 steps on the DBs so a ball a little behind or not perfect is still catchable. It’s not like the players are different, they are just open.
It's not just the motion. It is the fact that the LB's & S are staying home or cheating up due to our run game.
You have less people dropping into coverage. It is forcing teams to go man if you want to stop us are play a zone and let Carr pick you apart in the seams...

It is a nice to see this type of offense being run by the Saints.

We don't punt

This offense is offensive, not defensive.

We shoot, we score.

We dangerous, not in danger.

We use match-ups again

We dictate what the defense does and then use it against them later.

We get our JV team some playing time in the 4th quarter like the top tier college teams do vs Alcorn St.

We have a sports carr at QB.

AK is 25 years old again somehow.

Our D- oline is able to play at the level of a solid B+/A-

Our PK's leg gets tired from all the kick-offs and PATs.

Concession sales in the Dome are down 36% because nobody has time to go get pecans and beer without risking missing a score.

Biggest difference in our offense??? We have NO IDEA about our run defense because opposing teams have to abandon the run in the first quarter.

I’m sure after Oayton left the attention to detail waned. Spacing was so important in Payton’s offense and that critical eye wasn’t there w/ Pete.

Agreed.

I also think we simplified things a lot more towards the end of Drew’s time, becoming more of a dink and dunk, game manager type offense that would turn it on only when necessary…Drew was now the elite game manager QB, focused on efficiency rather than playmaking, with just the occasional glimpse of his old abilities.

We kept that same style with PC, and as you point out, became a lot less detail-oriented and way less creative with it, and we got what we got…a disjointed, un-exciting mess.

Jamaal Williams problem is his feet. When he has nice powerful runs it is because he is strides out.
When he gets stuffed it is because he is taking baby steps due to not having a gaping hole... just like Mark Ingram...

It is probably too late in his career for him to change but he would be a much better RB if he did stutter step... just plow ahead & get what yardage you can on bad plays.

Our OL exacerbated his problem last year due to its poor blocking.

Klint Kubiak > Sean Payton.

This system is so player friendly and that’s refreshing to see. It wasn’t long ago that Gary Kubiak had Matt Shaub making pro bowls in this system.

I know SP is revered by us for obvious reasons, but it’s hard to disagree. This Shanahan system period is better than SP’s; it just doesn’t have the benefit of a perfect mesh with a HOF level talent like Drew.

Probably the one thing I notice the most and is likely the most obvious is how much space there is for our RB's and WR's to operate.....nice gaps/holes and effective running game leads to plenty of space for WR's/TE's to operate.....Carr, with time to throw the ball is very effective....

I think it's a combination of Kubiak's offense and a young, inexperienced offensive line that has far exceeded expectations (at least mine).....
