When I look back at that 2020 Daft that we picked Cesar Ruiz over Jalen hurts what was they thinking (4 Viewers)

Don’t you think the plan all along was to use one of them at Guard?
Yes, that’s what the plan was said to be, but why create that plan? Why have a player learn a new position (or a position that he has less experience with already)? If you actively have a guy playing well, then maximize that talent. Don’t make him learn another position. Makes no sense whatsoever. That rd 2 was loaded with talent. We could’ve thrown a dart blindfolded and hit on a good pick.

This times 100.
If they would have just checked with Bryant Law first.
Everybody loves Mr. Hindsight guy……he’s never wrong.
I was just think how much we need a Qb back then and pass up on picking one not just Hurts but others to pick a center. I don’t know a Mr Hindsight but I guess some people can’t express an opinion, without someone flaming them sorry if I didn’t express my thoughts more to your taste. I just wanted to point out how inept this management was in drafting quarterbacks over all these years.

Like LeCharles Bentley? Or Carl Nicks?

Most teams draft the best available player regardless of position and fill needs in FA. Ruiz was rated as a mid
1st pick. Hurts a low 2nd/high 3rd rounder. Scouts go by what they know right now. None have a crystal ball
telling them the future.

We could’ve used help in a handful of positions. Look at the talent in that 2nd rd. Yet we chose a guy who got Drew killed. So many of these dudes were NFL ready. You didn’t need to meet with them in person and have workouts with them. Their game film was good enough. Especially if that is all the teams had to go by

Only a small fraction of those players (on your screenshots you posted) are actual legit difference-makers. The rest of them are more or less just “guys.”

I’ll be honest, I didn’t love the Ruiz pick at the time. But he was universally considered a first round talent. And knowing Payton’s philosophy on investing high picks on interior O-Linemen, it made sense.

Message Board Hindsight GMs, smh.

You can SMH, all you want, but it doesn’t absolve the fact that rd 2 consisted (who are now) of one of the best QBs, one of the best RBs, one of the best CBs, and two picks ahead of us is one of the best WRs. Where’s that let’s trade up mantra? You may think that some of the other players are just “guys”, but you are wrong. A good number of those guys would’ve been staters on our team. The same as Ruiz, so that makes Ruiz, just a guy, who in turn took longer to progress. So…..SMH

But the point is that it's easy to criticize draft picks in hindsight, and even easier to say "we should've picked [insert player]". I recall scratching my head at the Ruiz pick, but what I don't recall is a bunch of SR posters screaming for Jalen Hurts.

I wanted him and Lamar we passed on em both

Our refusal to draft a QB high for four straight years of needing a QB is a major failure. No excuse.
This. I don't if it was because of Drew but we refused to make a serious investment in the position for too long. If you're not using a 1st or 2nd you're not serious.
