N/S Why has it taken so long for Caleb Williams to be exposed as a Bust? Smells like the Jets Zac Wilson. (1 Viewer)

Daniels and Maye are way better prospects than Williams. I understand, that no team is going to pass on Williams if the Bears don't take him. He is the kind of bust that really sinks a team.

Because he will fail because of his poor emotional development, not athletic ability. Everyone seems to be in a hurry to crown him, but he is just so avg. at times. I wouldn't want him at all in the 1st rd. He really reminds me of Zac Wilson of the Jets. I'm not very good at picking the next great QB, Purdy, Storud etc. They were never on my radar. But, I can spot a high 1st rd bust a mile away.

If you disagree, I invite your reply, and reasons why.

I'll start off with:

1) what does "his poor emotional development" mean? Is there some emotional test you are referring to? Or are there specific moments you can describe which indicate he is a man-child? And if so: are there specific moments that indicate he has "good" emotional development at times? How does one negate the other? If you are referencing an entire body of work please be specific with how you arrived at this judgement. Or is this just code for not being a hard worker?

2) If he will fail because of emotional development why does it matter he is "so avg. at times"? I can recall Drew Brees looking pretty average at times. In fact, I cannot recall a single NFL QB that hasn't looked average at times. Are Williams' average times greater than the amount of times he has looked the part of a top prospect?

3) If he is a bust in the 1st round, why would he not be a bust in any other round? A gamble is a gamble, regardless of where taken. Or is this an admission that despite the fact he "will fail" his measurables still are worth a shot? Would you take him if not in the 1st?

4) Could you list specific reasons he reminds you of Zach Wilson? Is it his size? His running ability? His arm strength? His haircut? His college stats?

Otherwise this thread is just a huff and puff session so someone can later say "I told you so" if Williams is a bust. Which, to be fair, is more probable than not based upon QB draft history. I too, am not good at picking the next great QB, but I can reasonably tell when a SR thread is a bust.

No dog in the hunt; just thought this was funny.

Just because it happened to Zach Wilson doesn't mean Caleb Williams will have the same fate.

As someone that has watched VERY little game film on him, I tend to agree with you based to the attitude and entitlement that the media presents with him. I’ve never met him. Could be totally wrong and I totally acknowledge that everything that I know about him has been filtered through people that are trying to paint a picture about him.

The case I heard against this is that negative reports stem from leaks from other teams that are trying to create a scenario where he drops in the draft. Big decision, like all draft pics, to make if you are the Bears.

I like Caleb. I've seen him do dynamic things and the talent is unquestioned. He has some growing up to do because he has been pampered. The NFL will make him grow up and he will adapt. I am quite sure Caleb is a solid citizen. He could be the next Mahomes.

I think one thing that has held him back was being one of the 1st high profile NIL QB's, and, being tied to the hip of Lincoln Riley. His coach has only really shown himself to be a money mercenary and offensive glory coach. The D just hasn't been there, at OU or USC. The Cotton Bowl loss to Tulane probably really soured the USC fanbase on both of them, paired with being tied for 4th in the Pac with an 8-5 record this past year.

Here's a yahooie article from two weeks ago that covers the "concerns."

I believe the decision Chicago makes will be based on Justin Fields as much as Caleb Williams. Are they better off selling the #1 pick for a bounty or hitting reset and drafting a QB? I'd see if Arizona would give up both first round picks. That would give the Bears three impact players.

I just think it's lying season, especially for the top QBs. The thing I go back to is the guy that everyone has been waiting on always goes #1. I am not saying he'll be a great or a bust, but everyone knew Peyton, Andrew, and Trevor were going first. Teams are lying, hoping Chicago takes the bait, but I don't think they pass on the next Mahomes (as some people say).

Who exposed him? I did not realize he was already in the NFL and playing games. Did he dress up Zach Wilson last year?

I'm not going to say that Williams or Maye will be a bust but I'm only sold on Daniels.

Daniels has enough good performances to show that he'll be good.

Maye looked good when I watched him but I didn't see enough to convince me that he's the #2 or #3 pick.

Williams looked bad every game that I watched and I watched a lot.
