Why is everyone so scared of the Patriots? (2 Viewers)

Scared might be a little strong but, some concerns I have about this game are:

1) 4 of our first 5 CBs are either out or banged up (this is the big one considering their passing attack)

2) They have a creative coach, you don't always know what you're gonna get from them on offense or defense. One of the few coaching staffs I'd put on a par with ours.

3) Technically, they need the win more than us and may subconciously play with a little more desperation than us

4) This will be the first elite QB we see this year

5) AFC teams have played us tough

6) They have the extra incentive of trying to protect their "only team to go 16-0" status

7) They're hitting stride as a team right now.

With this said, I agree with the original poster that, they should be just as scared of us especially with the game being played in the Dome.

Not scared of them but I respect them and what they've done this decade.

This game to me is really a win / not much to lose situation. Obviously, you want the Saints to win, especially playing a good team on MNF. A loss to an AFC team is the least damaging thing in any tiebreaker scenario that the Saints could end up in, especially given that Minnesota's lone loss so far came against the Steelers.

1) yes our corners are hurt and banged up but if you pressure the qb well enough you dont have much to fear.

2) just as you said, coaching staff as creative as ours not to mention when you put SP AND Brees' minds together you can see an annihilation of a defense

3)this i can say you're right but both teams have the determination to win

4)we played an elite Sanchize(before we apparently crushed his confidence) with his undefeated Jets and an elite Eli Manning(same story, fell apart after we crushed'em) so i would think its not the first elite qb we'll play but at least the first of his caliber.

5)this is true, AFC teams have been tough but whats the record again... 10-0

6)yea they had that wonderful 16-0 season...and what did it get them, right the big goose egg. 16-0 means nothing if you dont win it all.

7)once again you pressure brady early and long enough he never gets a rhythm and ultimately they lose their stride and you could see another meltdown of a team we play.....not saying it would happen but seems to be the story that comes along after we play a team this season.

8) I'm adding this one in.....WE'RE IN THE DOME. hard to beat the saints there.

Its not fear, its respect for the most dominant franchise in the NFL this decade.

This is the correct answer. It's not Brady... see 2008 season. Its not the WR's (who are both top 5 receivers this year)... see any season prior to a '07. It's not the defense, and its not the assistant coaches who have come and gone.

It's billicheat... maybe the system... who knows. for whatever reason they are ALWAYS contenders and ALWAYS figure out ways to win games.

Yes.. the saints this year are truly special and have figured out how to win games several different ways but the Pats have been doing it for an entire decade.

If you think this game will be easy, you haven't been paying attention to football for 10 years. We may have the better record this year but when you look at what they have done in the regular season and post-season year after year after year then you must understand that they are a much more accomplished franchise than we are.

I love the saints, and know we can win this game. Outside of that, I know this is by far our toughest opponent on the schedule so far and am also remembering that it is our lease important remaining game... if we win great. if not, i'll be ok with 10-1 (and of course I'll be ok with 15-1 also!).

with Kevin Kolb, yes. Eagles were reeling from injuries early in the season.
WE did beat the crap out of them but we are bound to struggle against them going forward.
We are a better team than the Eagles, plain and simple. The Eagles really didn't look too impressive against Dallas or Chicago for that matter. We would beat them with McNabb, too.

I don't say or think this too often about a game in which the Saints face a good team(due to years of mental conditioning), but I actually have a really good feeling that the Saints will show up the way they did against the Giants, firing on all cylinders. The outcome will be closer, but I see the Saints winning it. Just a gut feeling.

This is a game in which Sean Payton's talent as a playcaller will be a deciding factor in the game. Belichick will come away from the game surly and angry, but very impressed with Sean Payton.

My only concern i had about the Patriots was that i didn't think the saints would beat them if they had 3 or 4 turnover in the game. Now it seems the Saints have finally shown they can get back to protecting the ball as they did in the first 4 games, my confidence that they can win the game has increased.
With all due respect we played the Bucs. Tampa is not a good team and their defense is suspect. The Pats dominanted both the Colts and Jets of lately and Wes Welker is a top 5 WR in the NFL. There are few teams that pressure defenses to defend the whold field. The Pats (and Saints) are among them. This will be very, very tough. I think both the Colts and Saints could be "upset" this weekend

the patriots have wes welker and randy moss

both are top 10 if not top 5 WR's in the nfl right now

plus tom brady who is a top 3 QB

and a amazing offensive line

id say thats why people are scared of them.

The exact same can be said of the Saints.

I dont think fear is the right word. Its more about being impressed at what they have done over the last decade. They also have some stud players like Brady, Moss and Welker that impress me with their ability. However, the Saints have some studs of their own this year that I am sure the Pats fans are impressed with as well. If Greer plays, the only real concern (not fear) I have is how to control the Brady to Welker connection. Thats going to be a tough match up for us.
Fear is not an option here. Both teams really believe in what they can do and whoever does the better job at controlling turnovers, wins this game. With the Dome rockin', I see the Saints coming out on top in a very close one.

Seems to me, they should be scared of us. How the hell are they going to cover a mixture of Shockey, Colston, Meachem, Henderson, Reggie, Thomas (Both Pierre and David), and Bell on the field at the same time? How the hell are they going to run on Ellis, once he comes back? How the hell are they going to protect Brady? We're getting lots of pressure and sacks now...

I think we match up MORE than well against them.

I agree. With most everyone being healthy next week, i expect a return to the level of play we had in the first half of the season. It will be tough, but i think the saints have the edge - way more weapons and much better defense. We just got to contain moss and more importantly welker. best thing is that we got homefield advantage.

Their offense may not be at 2007 standards, but they're 3rd in the NFL in scoring offense and have scored 24 or more in 8 of 10 games. They're also +12 in TO differential (2nd in the NFL) and 2nd in points allowed (16.4/game). Brady is having almost as good a year as Brees, Moss and Welker have 1779 combined receiving yards.

The Pats are good. Damn good. They have a great QB, 2 great WRs, and one of the best HCs of all-time. The Colts were down 17 to the Pats and if not for one of most arrogant and stupid calls in the NFL's history, the Pats would've won.

Am I scared? No. But if we lose, I won't freak out and go nuts. As for why some may be scared, they're the Patriots and we're the Saints. Even with this awesome year, there's still the memory of when we screwed the pooch and when they won Super Bowls.

The colts should have won that game. If they play us like they play the colts, we're going to dominate them. We have a good running game, the colts dont.
