I really like Taysom Hill. He will go down in NFL history as having carved out the most unique, and specialized positions in the NFL. That we have seen in a very long time. He is a great teammate, and is a team first guy. But, If Trevor goes down, will Ian Book be the next Saints QB to beat out Taysom to be the starter? Will (medically cleared) Taysom Hill be activated to play the joker roll? Will Taysom, just hold a clip board for the game as QB2? Will Ian Book be activated to play QB2?

Idk, but I’m ready to see Ian at some point. Know zero about him as I don’t watch preseason, and would like to see how he plays against the ones.

Personally I have little faith in either Taysom or Ian being our future at QB, but I’ve certainly been wrong before.

Yup!

.. while I respect TH as a football player, if he was going to be a starting QB he would've done so by now.. Whereas Book is a pure QB sitting in the wings, ableit young with barely any experience, he's still a "pure" QB.. & personally I can't wait to see that young man do his thing.. I believe a good majority here will understand when it's his time.. CSP wanted him for a reason.. just my take..

PS: a mid round QB pick from Notre Dame, hmmmm, seems I remember this from years gone by, that ended up haunting the Saints for a long time.. LoL!

NW.

I don't think Trevor beat out Taysom. I believe the Saints decided to not mess up the offense, which did move the ball and kept the game going once Winston got hurt. Taysom was #2 QB and had he not been injured, he would be playing right now instead of Trevor.

Unless Trevor is ineffective and requires a change, I think that we will do it how we always have - Taysom will be in his multi-positional role and Book will be QB2. If Trevor goes down in a game, Book will be prepared to play because Taysom has prepped that week to be his role.

After the completion of the game, Sean will have to figure out how to prep for the next week. Will Taysom become the starter and prep to be the QB? I think it depends on how Book plays. It's probably likely that Taysom would play at that point but we won't know unless it happens, hopefully it doesn't.

This game might tell us some things about our coach that we've never got to see. With Drew, no matter how bad of a game he was having, he was NEVER getting benched.
So is CSP a stubborn coach? Is he hesitant to pull a struggling QB? That's something we may find out over the next couple of weeks.

I think it's not at all as complicated as we're making it out to be. Our offense is starved for weapons a defense has to prepare for. Taysom is a weapon who is best used everywhere including behind center. Making Taysom QB1a takes away another of those weapons.

Taysom and Trevor aren't all that far apart when it comes to throwing the ball around. Trevor might be slightly better, but Taysom brings mobility to the position that puts him slightly ahead of Trevor overall.

By starting Trevor, and using Taysom as the super-flex with maybe some added snaps at QB, we lose nothing and potentially gain a lot.

A true two QB system had never been tried in the NFL. Brees-Hill, Bridgewater-Hill, and Winston-Hill is as close as any team has come to doing it. I think Siemian-Hill might actually end up being the real thing.

I think we can win with either QB, but our offense would not be of championship caliber to match our defense. If Sean Payton can use this novel offensive approach to increase our production on that side of the ball... maybe just maybe we can make it through this season without hitting a ceiling that prevents us from contending.

Maybe it's worth a try. There are reasons no team has tried a 2 QB approach. Rhythm disruption is one. But I think the main reason is money. QBs cost too much to have two high level QBs on the roster that actually play meaningful snaps. And teams try not to go into a season with a B or C level player starting at that position.

Well... with Jameis out, we find ourselves in that exact situation, with 2 B/C level QBs with different strengths and weaknesses, who are both very accustomed to playing in a 2 QB system. There has never been a better time for a team to give it a go.

It can take time for defenses to adjust to a novel offense. So if we can pull it off, we might be able to play it out the rest of the season before they figure out how to stop it. This may give us the best chance to be a real contender... If it works.

I don't know what the ceiling is for Ian Book, but I do believe that it is going to take a complete debacle with both Trevor and Hill for Coach Payton to give Book the reins of this team this year. Book is a raw rookie and while I do believe he has some positives to work with, I just don't think he is ready for prime time if we are still competing for a playoff spot.

I think Ian Book is considered an emergency QB, BUT if Siemian is injured, he would probably be the candidate to step in at QB and finish the game. This has less to do with "beating out" Taysom Hill than it does with gameplan.
