Will Ian Book be the next Saints QB to beat out Taysom to be the starter? (1 Viewer)

Our offense is starved for weapons a defense has to prepare for. Taysom is a weapon who is best used everywhere including behind center. Making Taysom QB1a takes away another of those weapons.
While I do believe that Payton will always start whichever player he feels gives us the nest chance to win, it's hard to deny the point that dutar76 is making here. Even the best QB in the league ain't worth a whole lot if he has no real help to get the job done. Taysom may have an issue staying healthy in either role unless he willing to give himself up when the bodies start coming together.

No matter what is being asked of Trevor, there seems to be a better chance that he can remain healthy in the starting QB role, and that is going to be an important factor into building some stability into our offense going forward. In recent TV interviews with Siemian he strikes me as a confident & cerebral kind of leader. This is one intangible that can go a long way in moving up the depth chart to run an offense.

Without Winston, the Saints are now down, but certainly not out. We will know so much more about Siemian as our staring QB now that he has had a week to prepare for the job. If he can't handle what Atlanta throws at him, it's hard to imagine that he will do much better against the tougher opponents ahead.

I think Ian Book is considered an emergency QB, BUT if Siemian is injured, he would probably be the candidate to step in at QB and finish the game. This has less to do with "beating out" Taysom Hill than it does with gameplan.
Then again this could be completely off the mark if Hill was splitting QB snaps with Siemian this week.

Unless Trevor has a great game, I predict Taysom will start against the Titans. Trevor said he knew he was the starter on Wednesday, in large part because Taysom was "limited practice" then, at least that's what it appears

All year long it's been nothing but Taysom vs Jameis threads ad nauseam. And, you'd think that ends with Jameis being out for the year, right? But, nope. SSF doesn't miss a beat. Now we get Siemian vs Hill threads AND Book vs Hill threads. :ROFLMAO:

It should be pretty clear by now that Payton could put just about anyone behind center and still be a playoff team. Maybe not a Superbowl team, but we didn't really have that with Drew either.

SSF is going to be pretty boring if Hill leaves next year.

People, people people as much as I like Taysom and this is not a shot at him what so ever he’s not doing what Trevor is doing at QB that fits our system. We can switch up and cater to Taysom straights at times but the Saints offensive identity in a Sean Payton system will always be the QB that can read a defense pre-snap, knows who to throw the ball to based on the defense alignment, can scan the field and can deliver the ball quickly to the last option if need be. All of these things Taysom struggles with, that is why Trevor is starting over him this week.

While I agree with some of that, I think the only reason TS is getting the start is because of TH's injury. If TH had been healthy and in the game last week, I think he is the starter this week. But he wasn't, and still wasn't on Wed, so SP had to go with the only other option, TS. Now, I'm not saying that SP doesn't like TS, just that TH would have been his choice per earlier comments made by SP.

I absolutely think we'll see Hill taking QB snaps this week, but don't believe he'll be lining up at tight end and H-back. I think this week is the exception: he's in the game plan as a QB and would 100% take over all the snaps if TS went down. Book is the emergency QB.

Sticking with TS coming out of the TB game with a win and TH off the injured list is the safe play for Payton this week. I believe they'll both get real QB snaps against ATL and Payton will go with the hot hand going forward.

I really like Taysom Hill. He will go down in NFL history as having carved out the most unique, and specialized positions in the NFL. That we have seen in a very long time. He is a great teammate, and is a team first guy. But, If Trevor goes down, will Ian Book be the next Saints QB to beat out Taysom to be the starter? Will (medically cleared) Taysom Hill be activated to play the joker roll? Will Taysom, just hold a clip board for the game as QB2? Will Ian Book be activated to play QB2?
Nice try at hiding the fact that you are a Taysom hater, but try harder next time. This is an obvious shot at him. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Trevor did not beat him out, Hill, is not healthy.

Taysom is a better version of Tebow it won't be hard for any real Qb to beat him out it's a passing league.

I think we may have something with him. He can get the ball at fast. With our west coast concepts, once he knows where to go with the ball pre snap and reports hes got good football IQ can get the ball to the YAC guys in the short to intermediate passing game quickly and accurately. Throw in his abilty to extend plays and improvise. Some play making traits. He took care of the ball at ND with high completion %. Future guy may be in the building

I don't know what the ceiling is for Ian Book, but I do believe that it is going to take a complete debacle with both Trevor and Hill for Coach Payton to give Book the reins of this team this year. Book is a raw rookie and while I do believe he has some positives to work with, I just don't think he is ready for prime time if we are still competing for a playoff spot.
Book reminds me of Jeff Garcia, the former 49er QB. He carved out a nice career for himself but in now way was going to help them win a championship.

I have said this also and agree 100% . Its a gut feeling for me , watching film , watching highlights , interviews ext . The kid has a calm poise about him . You see it in game tape you see it in interviews . He leads by being the calming influence in the offense . His team mates really seemed to rally around him as did the fans and coaches . He is tough ,gritty and makes plays in big moments and takes care of the ball . Coach Payton's offense is the perfect system for him .

TCUDan hit the nail in the head. No need to contradict him. I do believe it would be Ian but I also believe that he isn’t ready for it so I hope we never find out.
