With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (17 Viewers)

This is how I look at it. Let's set we had Graham, or Will Johnson, or Carter on this year's team. Would the Saints have won more games? Maybe. It would have at least been more interesting.

Now let's say that the Saints had Tet or Jeanty this year. Would the Saints have won more games? Almost certainly.

It's not just BPA. Its which player helps you win the most given what's there. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone on defense does that, at least in the short-term, in the first round. After the first round is a different story.

Yes, the defense is old and needs upgrading everywhere. But it's not the total embarrassment that the offense is either.
LOL I'm all for taking Tet. But the biggest reason we would have won more games with those guy is our offense was DECIMATED by injuries and we were playing off the street WRs and guys that were out of the league or should have been on the PS @ RB . C'mon man. Also our offense was bad middle of the yr because the "Fat Guys " as towel likes to call them were mostly hurt on the OL. Ohh and don't forget we had a 5th rnd rookie starting @ QB

Now , if we had Graham or Johnson maybe we don't have 3 DBs running into each other and we win the Philly game or maybe Johnson does not have a DPI and we win the the 1st ATL game. Maybe if we had Graham ( another Fat Guy) tyeams don't run the ball down our throats and they don't score and we win more games

After 2 years, you should stop with "if Miller can stay healthy". You better be planning on him NOT being healthy. And I don't think you can rely on 30 year old Kamara to be healthy all year, either. Then who are you left relying on? Mimms? That's a loss waiting to happen.
30 year old Kamara who's now dinged up as often as he's healthy, Miller who gets a soft tissue injury taking a dump, and maybe Clyde who is basically an unknown at this point through no real fault of his own. And don't get me wrong, I want some combo of Tet/Jeanty/Graham AND Skattebo.

If the new coach decides to roll with Rattler as the QB, what helps take pressure off a youngster under center? A threat of a run game. And Jeanty was the run game at Boise State. That OL didn't do him any favors throughout the entire CFB season. Dude was breaking tackles in the backfield on a regular basis.

And if you get Tet, you get Mike Evans without the b****y attitude.

I really don't like Mike Evans.

1st Miller did not have to go on IR the 2nd time that was DA. Also soft tissue injuries seemed to be a lot less after DA was gone and that's all the Miller had. And you don't plan for a player to be hurt.

Maybe you should check out Derrick Henry's age and then see how many games he played this yr and he has a lot more wear on him than AK does
How about Aaron Jones , he played 17 games this yr and over 1100yds

I'm not saying we should not draft a RB, just not @ 9

A guy like Abdul Carter, or another pass rusher, including a DT that can rush the passer like Graham, can win you games immediately. There were several games that came down to the defense on the field for a final drive. A pass rusher that can get you sacks when it counts will end games and that opportunity was there several times last year and many times in the last few years.

Most games in the NFL come down to the final drive. A guy that can get you sacks in last drives of the game will win you games. Certainly he can win you as many games as a RB, TE, or even a big X. And we do need all those things. So, you just take the best one that is there.

The offense, on the other hand, was actually very good for two weeks before injuries took over.

We need playmakers on offense, but we also need playmakers on defense. I'm fine with taking either at #9.

They do allow you to draft RBs after the 1st round and there are many really good backs in this draft that will be available after the 1st round.

Widge…. We gonna keep going in circles on this…. I think Warren is worth that pick too. I said last year that Bowers was also worth a top 10 pick…. He was. Warren is a different type of TE, but has a higher ceiling than Bowers because of his athleticism, size, and versatility. Bowers was more polished.
Hard disagree that Warren has a higher ceiling than Bowers. It’s simply not true. Bowers was more polished. More explosive and quicker in and out of his breaks. Warren may have potential to be a better blocker, but certainly not better overall. Bowers also had versatility at Georgia.

With all that said, I really like Warren and would be happy to draft him even at pick #9 if guys like Tetairoa, Abdul Carter, Mason Graham, and Jeanty are off the board. Making comparisons to Bowers just sets up this fanbase for disappointment when he isn’t as good as (imo) the best TE prospect in at least the past 25 years if not ever.

Warren is bigger, taller, and a better athlete. And I was huge on drafting Bowers at all costs last year. Bowers was the best TE in football out of the box last year…. As I said… Different but same type of impact. I think Warren can have a higher ceiling because he can run the ball, and develop as a better blocker, and has also thrown passes. He was also a great basketball athlete in HS.

I’ve done my homework on the guy. He can be as special as Bowers…. Just in different ways.

The only comparison I have for them is they play the same position and I wanted them both to be Saints. They are not at all the same player. Kelce and Kittle are not the same type of player…. Both are equally talented and insanely good players.

He's no Jalen Milroe. That dude can run, pass, and I bet he could catch and block too.

Maybe we can convert him to TE…. I know it’s never been tried…. Never know until you try

Now you're talking my language. Let entertainment reign. QBs at TE, TEs at LB, LBs at TE, RB at QB.

Or, just go with it, we draft Jeanty and Milroe and then we run the old Winged T or the Wishbone.

Warren is bigger, taller,
He is bigger and taller.
and a better athlete.
He’s not as good of an athlete as Bowers. While at Georgia, Bowers was hitting insane metrics for a TE with how fast he was consistently clocked while outrunning SEC secondary’s.

I was also a huge advocate on drafting Bowers last year. He was my top target in the draft for us. Bowers can also run the ball. I doubt Warren will make much of an impact throwing the ball other than maybe a few times in his entire NFL career. Not enough to really even factor it.

I’ve also done my homework on both players. Warren isn’t as talented as Bowers. Not a slight on Warren it’s just the reality of it.

Bowers has the potential to shatter TE receiving records. Warren does not.

Miller can't even line up right when he's healthy. Pass protection lacking, drops passes, doesn't get the playbook, and always injured. It actually makes sense why he was in Allen's doghouse.
