With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (57 Viewers)

I'm not a fan of Jeanty at 9 as we already have a STARTING RB in Kamara and you can get an equally talented RB in Cam Skattebo later. We are in agreeance with Tyler Warren, we need to address the TE spot to give Carr another weapon.

I also think the Saints should really entertain trading down and getting an extra 2nd rounder and trading 1 of their 4th rounders for 2 5ths. They have alot of holes they need to fill between this draft and the next.
Equally talented, hahaha you’re funny.

None of these guys lead their team to success they are successful because of their team.

King Henry: Took the titans nowhere.
James Cook: MVP candidate is his QB
Joe Mixon: Bengals had zero issues replacing him with a 5th round RB.
Barkey: Lead the Giants absolutely nowhere.
Josh Jacob's: Lead the Raiders absolutely nowhere.

These guys are all products of their teams that have been built already then added them. We are not in that boat.
This is what I don’t think people get. Certain positions are cornerstone positions and others are luxury positions.

RB is a luxury position.

That’s fine. If I were evaluating this team, I would view it as it were in week 18.

Meaning your projected #1 and #2 RB were both hurt. So if that remained true, how would you support Rattler? You’d still need to draft an RB. Does it have to be Jeanty @ 9…no..but should we draft one within first 3 rounds? Yes! Should the presence of a 30 year old RB and an oft injured 24 year old RB change that view? No

Is RB a luxury position? Arguably but Henry has the entire league rethinking RB value, especially in a league littered with young QBs.

The RB position became devalued when the QB era took over. Now that most of those guys retired, RB value is going back up.

No, I'm not. Your funny as they are both going to have solid careers. If you think Skattebo is going to be trash at the next level, you need to delete your post.
You’re*

Also I don’t think he will be trash but equally talented? Negative.

Everyone just casually ignores that point. They look at the surface level and scream about how RBs are "back" without looking at the context.

Passing on better players makes it take longer to become a contender. The draft is enough of a crap shoot without arbitrarily passing on players that grade out better. This is how Jonathan Sullivan got drafted by the Saints. The Saints stuck to their "need" list despite a run on defensive line. So instead of getting a better player they opted to fill a need. In hindsight, a better player would have helped the Saints much more than checking a box.
No that's just poor talent evaluation. If you are good at a position group or at least pretty good you don't pass a player at a position group that is a glaring need to draft a slightly higher graded player in a position group that you are strong at. THAT'S how you make a rebuild take even longer

If your OL is pretty good but you have no weapons you don't take an OL that is graded @ a 9 and pass a RB or WR that is graded at an 8.5

LG was a complete train wreck this season. There's no way you can count on Olave and Shaheed to show up and be healthy. The safety play by the Saints was atrocious this past season. Another big need. Outside of Smith, no LB made a play all season. A LB is a must. A NT is a must. Outside of Taylor and Kool-Aid, there is nobody at CB. No speed. Poor tackling. The Saints have the highest-priced empty cupboard in the NFL. BPA or trade down. For the TE people, what impact did Bowers have on the Raiders? If a TE falls to the 2nd, sure. But, out of all the need positions, TE would have the least impact on the Saints.
It's almost impossible to judge players by this yr because I think they pretty much checked out on DA. A better HC will come in and get more out of what we have. Look at the lil bit of juice they got from Rizzi

Always how it goes when you draft for need. In 2022 Jermaine Johnson and Trent McDuffie were ranked ahead of Penning but we drafted for need and those guys have been Pro Bowlers and All Pros.

In 2023 we reached for Foskey so we could get a DE and he failed to record a defensive snap in the last meaningless game of the season. Brian Branch was considered a first round talent went 5 picks later and just made his first pro bowl. Not a single ranking had Foskey ahead of Branch.

We've been drafting more and more for immediate needs because we haven't been able to fill them in FA and it's been slowly killing this team.
You didn't see our board so you have no idea how we ranked players , So called draft experts player ranking are almost always different than teams

Gonna disagree with you on this one. I'll judge you even more for checking out during a down season.

You're still paid handsomely to perform and the competitor in your should want to dominate regardless of your HC or record.

Jack Sawyer is a lock at 9 to the Saints. He’s rising up the boards. And we really regret letting Trey Hendrickson go. Sawyer is a Hendrickson clone.

Welcome to New Orleans Jack Sawyer!

Like your throwing context out the window when you said RBs have no value because Travis Henry and Saquon couldn't pull teams with awful QBs out of the basement? That kind of context?

We have Kamara as a starter what, 1-2 more years, maybe? The NFL Draft isn’t just for the upcoming season. These are long term investments.

And on what planet is Skattebo equally talented to Jeanty?! 😂

If they were equally talented as you say, Skattebo wouldn’t be available “later.”

Thank you. RB position value goes considerably back up when you're getting less than average QB play. Some fans are still stuck in the Brees, Brady, Rodgers QB era but really there was only Burrow that even came close to 5k and he threw the ball 70-100 times more than everybody else.

With worse QB play running the ball becomes even more important in protecting the QB and taking time off the clock to protect the defense. With a better run game we're not having to trot a tired defense out in the last 2 minutes to just give up a DPI and lose the game.

So not only would Jeanty likely be the most talented prospect available but he'd account for a considerable chunk of our offense for the next 8 years. I fail to see how this is even an argument.

So can we hire a so called draft expert and fire whoever had Foskey as a better player than Branch? Even if you want to play the positional game who had him over Keion White and Tuli Tuputilo?

We almost need to hire a so called draft expert and put them in the room with our guys just to play devils advocate. I don't know what's broken in their talent evaluation process with DE's but something needs to change.
