With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (61 Viewers)

It’s sad. Kind of feels like we should be picking top 3.
It is sad. Perfect description. This has to be the most Saints thing of all time. To have a season like this where nothing goes right, coach is fired, injuries all over the place, and we're looking at the 10th overall pick. Good grief.

The worst part is that we could've been awful the easy way or the hard way. The easy way being you clean up the cap, get rid of some pricey vets, accumulate picks, and roll with young guys with an eye toward the future. The Saints chose the hard way by sacrificing the future to be mediocre/awful today. They stayed all in after Drew retired. They stayed all in when SP quit. They went even more all in with Jameis Winston after missing out on Deshaun Watson. They were convinced that all Winston needed was a raw LT and an elite #2 WR so they moved heaven and earth to get him just that.

This has been a catastrophic failure by the front office. Now we're looking at a situation where we might be the least desirable destination in the NFL. Who is going to want to come here if they have options? Not just coaches but players. No young franchise QB. Very little young talent to build around. A salary cap that looks like it has been run by a 14 year old kid playing Madden franchise mode.

Anyway, rant over. With the 10th pick the Saints select some rando that isn't a SSF favorite. At first we'll be like "wait, what" but then someone will post some highlights from Youtube and we'll all pretend like it was a great pick. "To get this guy at 10 is a steal! My mock draft 14.2 had him going in the top 5".

In the 1st? No way. Put what round you think he would go. People just throwing out names that's not even first round prospects. Dart not going til 3rd unless someone reaches.
You may be correct. However, I know what he did for Ole Miss. Tom Brady I think was a sixth rounder.

And that’s the problem with trying to select a talented quarterback. People that go in the first round sometimes turn out to be trash while people who go later on turn out to be true gyms.

The point is, too many people think that college talented quarterback will become a talented NFL quarterback.

I keep reading people talk about cutting pricey vets. I wish we could, but it easier said than done. With dead money now and in the future, it's a little harder than we think. I'm not a salary cap guru, but I do read articles about it. Like everyone wants Carr gone. Not happening unless you really want to just field a JV team. I'm all for giving Rattler a real shot, but this is going to take a while. Unfortunately, I think you will see a Carr extension to save money now, then let him go in 2026 and eat dead money for 3 years after. As long as Loomis is making the decisions, I don't feel like it will go away soon.

I agree. Gems can be found later. I've talked a lot on here about not liking the first round QBs this year. I would stay away. Dart would be an interesting pick, but later. The way you made your post it seemed like you wanted him in the 1st. But we have so many holes, I think we need more depth in other places.

Looks like we will be the 10th Pick in the draft so who you got for our first pick? Do you think we trade up or trade back? 🤔
Mason Graham, DT, Michigan. He's the highest-rated trench guy I've seen on the supposed experts' boards. Rated higher than the highest-rated O-lineman. If not him, then whoever's the hottest iron on the fire for o-line. Must continue rebuilding the trenches on both sides of the ball.

I mentioned parting ways with pricey vets but I was talking about a few years back. You're right, we're stuck like Chuck now. We had a window where that was possible but they decided to stay all in.

I wish I knew how to paste a link to a article, I'm not tech savvy and a new phone so, but if anyone would search saintswire they have a good article about the 10 biggest cap hits coming for us. Good read.

Trade down, mid 1st perhaps. Depends on how the board lines up. Remember Bowers went one pick before us this past year and set a rookie TE receiving record.
I wanted Bowers bad. If we can get someone to trade, but if Loomis is still here he very rarely trades down.

It came down to either Bowers or Fuaga last year. I, too, wanted Bowers super-badly, but we needed o-line then and now. Fuaga has made his rookie errors here and there, but it was a solid pick. And he's moveable back to the right side if we can somehow land an experienced left tackle in free agency. Meanwhile, Bowers is stuck playing for the Raiders until at least his rookie contract is up.
