iran is one of the older teams in the tourney and this is 3rd match - he'll be a hard matchup if he's fresh in 2nd half

I half suspected we'd see Scally (maybe after 60"0)
i've been coming around on Sargent - prefer him to jesus at this point

It's fine. Sure, people have some preferences for some players (like Gio Reyna - 19 yo, plays at a German powerhouse club - Dortmund). Typically, a lot of the complaining happens when MLS players are playing big roles when there are available players that play in big leagues in Europe. If Jordan Morris started this match, there would be an uproar (justified IMO). Morris had a chance to go to Germany's top division, but chose not to because he and his GF got a new dog and he was comfortable in Seattle (MLS).

The US pool of players is deeper than ever, so good players are going to play.

it seems like greggg is doing on defense what i wanted him to do on offense - it looks like he wants to push up the backline
CCV for zimm (seemingly) tells me he doesn't expect his backline to absorb as much as he wants them to push forward
(and if pushing forward CCV can get back faster than zimm could)
he's either convinced Iran is playing for 0-0 or he wants to put pressure early and hopefully defensive sub after half

Tangent but this has been grinding my gears.....if one of my Hispanic friends said "Amairheecah" and I stop him and say "bro, it's 'Merica'." I would be the biggest douche and should rightfully be dragged through the streets for that.....not anyone is talking about this Iranian media mouthpiece doing that to Adams. We're just supposed to be like "oh us ignore yanks doing it again. We're so sorry".

I mean, can you imagine what would happen to an American reporter if they would correct a foreign player's accent saying 'United States'?

My guess is that started with Bush 1 purposively mispronouncing SADam Hussein

Not exactly and I'm not sure what a good comparison would be. Maybe like picking the AP 1st team for college football with a lot of people crying that someone isnt from the SEC.

In fairness to Gregg, Gio hasnt played a full 90 since March 20, 2021 due to persistent hamstring issues.

probably because it was expected.

At the end of the day, that reporter was planted to ask that specific question to that specific player for a reason and couldnt be prouder of his answer.

The things we do bicker about are minor.....like Jesus vs Sargent is like Saints fans debating Calloway vs Shaheed.....sure there can be preferences on those two and who should play more but overall it shouldn't be our most impactful position and there are good and mostly bad arguments for either.

Gio is an interesting debate because he can be so great but Weah is good, too.
