World Cup 2022 - Qatar (with SR Pick'Em league) (8 Viewers)

yeah i'm 80% sure greggg will start CP AND Jesus - neither will make me feel great

I'm not worried about CP being beat up too much so much as I'm worried about him trying to do too much early on, he's probably our best option for attacking directly at defenders, but there's a lot of talent around that should be involved, and he's only been ok recently. Would love to see him make that leap to the next level, but I'm not expecting it.

I appreciate Berhalter and Tyler Adams' grace in how they handled the press conference but sometimes wish we could live up to our douchey jock American stereotypes and look straight at the reporters and say "look Mr Media Man, your regime sucks. You're out here crying about this flag as a psychological tactic to shift the focus off your totalitarian nightmare and onto us as a way to try to brinf your protestors back under control. We're going to rain freedom balls all up on you Tuesday." And then cap it off cawing like a majestic ******* bald eagle.

It also irritates me that all the media pundits are trumping Iran up like they didn't need that red card to get their two goals.

4 - 0 US

Iran is about to find Jesus..........the one from FC Dallas.

And the English queen is still dead.

Or threaten them with physical violence like Canelo threatened Messi :hihi:

I will preface this post by saying that I've been a Dallas soccer fan since they were the Burn. So I love Ferreira.....but he really is the answer. Now, as the MLS season got into the postseason, I was dismayed to see him and Arriola disappear as other teams kicked it up a notch and keyed in on them.....but this is isn't England. I do think Jesus might struggle against their quality. This is Iran. I would start Jesus up top and if Iran goes after Pulisic, Ferreira can absolutely score on them with a little time and space. If he draws their CBs, our midfielders should be more focused downhill in this game and will score.

I'd bring in Gio and Aaronson as early early subs for Jesus and Weah if it's still even in the 2nd half.

Good stuff Sengal v Ecuador- tied 1-1

nm now 2-1 Senagal who need a win to advance.

obviously Qatar did all this for the sportswashing
the irony is that they will come out of all this looking much worse in the eyes of most of the world than if they'd just kept quietly doing their qatar thing
Yeah, precious few knew they existed, and many of those felt some sympathy for the country MBS was trying to strong arm into subsurviance... if not directly take over.

In a region with Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Isreal, Syria, etc... just keeping their head down would be enough to avoid most international scrutiny.

Seriously, if I listed the nations and their respective, very public violations of human rights and the soverignty of their neighbors, this might be my most long winded post ever.

For the money spent Qatar could have bought some key sports franchises for their "sportswashing" to try and build a crafted image, and maybe built some educational centers or invested in another way to diversify their economy beyond NG... not sure why the thought tourisim was a good play. All they did here was shine a spotlight on the darkest recesses of their society.

I will admit, the only reason I knew they existed pre-2018(MBS near invasion) is I once embarked on a examination of nations with the higher GDP/capita than the US, higher or comprable median income, and with a comprable or lower Gini coefficient(income equality). Qatar piqued my interest... then I discovered the numbers look really good when you can avoid counting 77% of the total population(95% of the labor force) because they are migrant workers and not citizens... and their near zero cost labor in the NG industry is why Qatari citizenry have the worlds highest GDP/capita and a comprable Gini score to us... they just dont count the grand majority of the people participating in their economy.

To be fair to Qatar, the US has used their country as a forward operating base for the entire region for 20 years. I'm sure they're a little surprised to hear any criticism from the West. But that's all for another thread/forum.

Our ref is Lahoz from La Liga. ( and CL/UEFA etc )

HE dont play that - will usually allow ONE hard foul, warn player/ team captain and if happens again, issue card. He isnt likely to allow them to continually foul.

I heard on SXM-FC that he’s known in Spain for “letting them play” in an English style. More forgiving about contact that most La Liga refs.

the few matches i remember him in CL and UEFA, he will allow one - then he will get control thru yellows.

Maybe allows more contact in LA Liga?

Hopefully he will have been prepped on what to allow/not allow. Hard legit tackles fine. Expected. But that crap from just behind a player/tactical foul should get yellow early to "set tone"

Vickers in for Zimmerman
Sargent up top

Youngest starting XI thus far in WC 2022

way too much nervous energy now.

bout to break open this Jameson 12 yr gift i received to take edge off. lol

I'm debating whether to stream the game at work, or just go home to watch... I think I'd want to have a drink or 3, which means I should start to head home now-ish

I'm just not excited for Sargent. Hopefully he proves me wrong or we have the plays come from others that we win despite him.

Zimmerman doesn't have the best distribution so offensively that is a good move but man is it scary shaking up that D after two decently solid games.
