World Cup 2022 - Qatar (with SR Pick'Em league) (3 Viewers)

I’m not even talking about the semi automatic VAR being used in the WC. EPL interpretations of offsides have been very tight the last few years. It just takes excitement away when you rule off a beautiful goal b/c the guy’s foot was 6 inches past the defender’s when the ball was passed to him.
Well I'm going to be even more rigidly biased after watching the Saints/49ers and the no call on the offsides to end the game but I think it's got to be enforced no matter how slight it is once the rule has been made. The thing that drives most fans nuts in the inconsistency to which leagues/refs call fouls. And even one inch forward can be so much more when you consider that the offending player most likely started that burst of movement sooner. I'm all for it being just the feet and not hands, heads, shoulders, and hips but it needs to be called whether it's 10 feet or one inch.

I can imagine the ref from yesterday's Saints game saying "he was only six inches offside so I didn't call it".

If there is even a bit of truth to this, Berhalter should be fired post WC.

You, as manager, are responsible for putting best 11 on field. You are also responsible for managing egos and desires, as well as your own.

If true, he isn't doing any of that, and putting US Soccer advance in jeopardy. Over his own tactical mistake in game 1.

It would certainly support my narrative that Berhalter doesn’t know or care who the best players are….I hope this isn’t true though….

more than likely it's a bit more nuanced than that - reports indicate that players typically like being on the team and that greggg supports them and that they play hard for him/each other
but it's entirely possible he struggles more with the players who need particular handling - not sure we'll ever know what went down with brooks (and brooks playing on a free transfer complicates speculation)
we know there was a bit of difficulty with Weston - but that seems to have been resolved
but who really knows what greggg and gio are like in the locker room - i doubt we'll ever really know

And that’s why you keep the flag down until you know for sure
x2

That makes no sense. They KNOW it is offsides from the moment they see it, but they just let the play continue. They are not waiting for someone upstairs in a booth to tell them.

One thing is voiding a goal after a review upstairs, another is voiding a goal because the line judge didn't call offsides until after the goal was scored, when he knew the play was offsides to begin with.

in both instances in today's early match, the forward was a good step or 2 past his man - instinctually that would be offsides
put it was a defender 15' away from the ball who played him onsides with a sloppy line
3-4 years ago side judge would have raised flags on both of those and have cost cameroon 2pts

I see both sides of it. On one hand it's ridiculous and players can and have gotten injured in passages of play that were always going to be ruled offsides but on the other scenarios like you described played out and you're glad they kept the flag down.

I do think the rule needs amending somehow, at the very least anything you can't legally handle the ball with (hands and arms mainly but I think shoulder's are a grey area) shouldn't count as offside in my opinion.

But what you describe is NOT offsides. It's never been.

The problem is when there IS offsides, but the refs allow the play to continue.

Eric Wynalda crawfishing BIG TIME about his part in rumors spread about greggg v Gio

He is a fool.

But if they indeed had a meeting and it's all hashed out, and in part, because of it being public, I'm all for it. Sounds to me as if egos were set aside and Gregg and Gio discussed, quashed and the squad is solid. I've said before these kids really do seem to enjoy playing for Gregg.

Let's get these 3 pts and look toward the Dutch ( much rather ) or Ecuador (they will run you into ground).

Ps blue kit tomorrow...so all blue for me tomorrow.

I appreciate Berhalter and Tyler Adams' grace in how they handled the press conference but sometimes wish we could live up to our douchey jock American stereotypes and look straight at the reporters and say "look Mr Media Man, your regime sucks. You're out here crying about this flag as a psychological tactic to shift the focus off your totalitarian nightmare and onto us as a way to try to brinf your protestors back under control. We're going to rain freedom balls all up on you Tuesday." And then cap it off cawing like a majestic ******* bald eagle.

It also irritates me that all the media pundits are trumping Iran up like they didn't need that red card to get their two goals.

4 - 0 US

Iran is about to find Jesus..........the one from FC Dallas.

And the English queen is still dead.
