Yahoo article injuries to Brown, Bush and Horn (2 Viewers)

Who cares what Bush has done. We're 5-2 and we're playing like a team!

Guys, we've gotten off topic here. Who cares about what words were exchanged between Bush and that other guy. Our biggest concern should be all the injuries mounting up! We have some key players banged up and it's not looking good for Sunday. I know injuries are apart of the game but it's not like we have any serious depth at any one position. Anyone have a bad feeling in their stomach like me?

Once the entire defense stops keying on him every play maybe he can produce something. Do you honestly think the rest of the offense would do as well if they werent paying so much attention to Bush?

So those defenses that played Barry Sanders and his Detroit Lions we keying on something else than Barry Sanders? When LT came into the league and was on a VERY bad San Diego team defenses were paying attention to something else? No, they made plays because thier talented players that translate to production.

There are many players in this league (and in its history) that have been gameplanned by a defense, the good ones go out and make plays anyway.

LT averaged 3.6 a carry as a rookie getting ALL the carries. Not exactly Pro Bowl material. If he split those with a Deuce and only carried 10 times a game, he wouldn't have been nearly that good. LT had 13 games of over 20 touches and 3 of over 30 touches. LT had FIVE games as a rookie with a sub-3 yards per carry. He also had ELEVEN games with a sub-4 yards per carry. He averaged 25 touches per game, 100 yards per game, so 4 yards per touch as a rookie. Look at Reggie's below.

Look at Reggie's offensive touches per game for the season:

CLE GB ATL CAR TB PHI BAL
22 14 17 15 20 15 9

He's had 5 70+ yard games out of 7 games and he's averaging 71.7 offensive yards a game on just a 16-touch per game average, which is 4.48 yards per touch. And this is with only getting 20 touches twice this year.

When compared to LT, the closest contemporary, he matches up pretty well based on their consistent performance (ie, yards per touch). If Reggie got the ball more per game, he would do better. Same with Deuce. I would actually love if touches that go to the TEs and any WR besides Colston and Horn would go to DM and RB because they move the chains, whether on the ground or in the air. Reggie, even though almost every pass to him is a swing pass, has averaged over 5 yards per catch in all but 2 games (ATL and BAL, and vs. ATL it was 4.8). If he was ever motioned out and sent on actual routes, he'd rack up yards like nobody's business.

In conclusion, get off his back and remember he's a ROOKIE sharing touches with a Pro Bowl-calibur RB with a lackluster OLine for run-blocking.

Have you ever seen LT shut down by a Defense? I have.

Even the greats in their primes can be schemed for and shut down. So far the best job on Reggie has been done by one of the best Defenses in recent memory, the Ravens. Also during their early years LT and Barry were used as primary back, and we are using Reggie as a weapon all over the place, and not giving him the carries of a primary back

Why is everyone saying this is a below average runblocking Oline? Ask Deuce if its below average.

man...all this anxiety over Bush.

IMO he is being spread to thin...RB...receiver....punt returner while being a rookie and being seriously keyed upon. I don't think he's had enough touches to be effective as a RB...compounded by the fact that in the beginning he was trying to score on every play. I think if he was the sole RB over the course of a game the defensive schemes would balance out & he would break bigger runs...thereby helping his average. I think over time he will learn to run more like W Dunn...who is smaller than him. Wait for his blocking...take what the defense gives and eventually longer runs will follow.

It also just seems to me that Deuce is getting some better daylight & it seems that Bush is often getting contact at the line of scrimmage or even in the backfield. Since Deuce is bigger he can shake some of this initial contact.

With Bush's abilities & work ethic he will produce...count on it.

Eventually if you don't produce, defenses will stop paying so much attention to you.......

I am not saying he isn't a key..... I am not saying he isn't talented..... I am not saying he is a bust...... All I am saying is its time to see something other than "hey look at me". Its time to see him put up and be the player he was in college. We need big plays and we need points......

Not sure what your issue is. Obviously you're a stats guys. You state you watch a lot of football, but yet you claim defenses are ignoring Bush on the field? Are you serious?

Bush had 5 attempts. Same as Deuce. None of them had a good game. But after this Baltimore game, you haters sure came out flying. Maybe we can trade him in the offseason?

Did you read anything I posted? I never said defenses were ignoring Bush.... I did say if he doesn't produce defenses will start shifting their focus.

I think a lot of people need to relax. None of us are stating Bush is a bust. None of us are saying he hasn't been important, we are not even saying he isn't going to be a good football player. We are saying that eventually he is going to have to be more than a decoy and that needs to start soon. We have a posibility of having a couple KEY players out this week and would be nice if Bush showed up doing more than just making the defense key on because his name is Reggie Bush.... He needs to show the opposing defense why they need to key on him....., this isn't college, its time to show the NFL why he got picked #2 overall, its time to show the Saints what they invested in, its time to put a little excitement in his game....

seems like a coaching decision to me....there's only one ball & he's going to have to get it more

Because they ARE below average run blocking. Deuce has to make his yards himself. Very few times does he run through a hole clean. He and Bush are routinely hit at or behind the LOS and Deuce is good enough to shake off tacklers and run through people. Pro Bowl-calibur RBs can make below average OLines look good. Rookies who rely on good blocks usually can't.
