I would say no, not to trade up or down.

I would wait and see who drops to me and take best on board.

This draft seems stacked with role players in running back, defensive line , offensive line and TE.

I believe I could get some quality guys with those four positions.

Unless they offer multiple picks to drop in the current draft, I would stay were I am at

Possibly a good linebacker as well.

you have to be willing to do either of both, based on player evaluation and how the draft is going.

If it gets to your spot and you have 7 players with near-equal grades (factoring in team need), you take calls to trade back.

If there is a player you fall in love with above anyone you can reasonably expect to fall to your spot, you make calls to see what it takes to go get him. If it’s a premium position player and you’re convicted about his ability and makeup, you do what it takes (within reason) to go up and get him.

There’s no “one size fits all” because every draft is so different. You have to be flexible.

Loomis defies the laws of gravity. He trades up but not down.

Incredibly, I liked his first round moves last year. This year is a different story, with many holes to fill.
Hopefully they sit still and utilize the # of picks to fullest extent.

They need an impact player on Dline, but mostly depth, role players and developmental pieces everywhere else.

Perhaps one trade up back into the top 50-60 after allowing first two picks to come to you

we have two fifths. I would be SHOCKED if we don’t use one to move up from either 29 or 71. Heck, bundle the 4th, a fifth and 6th to move back into the 3rd round. That’ll give us 4 good players and maybe another rotational guy with the other 5th and a special teamer with the 7th

So many variables. Who is available and at what position? What are the offers to trade down?

I would trade down. I am not sure there will be more value in our current spots that can't be had a few spots back. I think after pick 15 it gets really muddy.

With the way that injuries have hit us the past two years, we need as many picks as possible. So I wouldn't be upset if we trade down.

I've got it figured out. Stay put at 29, trade down from 40 to late 40's and pick up another 4th, take player at ~48, trade up from 71 using the newly acquired 4th. Or couple the new 4th and a 5th to get back into the third. Now you have a 1st, 2nd, 2 3rds, and still have 4th-7th. Shoot, the GM'ing stuff is easy!

As a general rule, I would trade down, but I would never rule out trading up, and the decision needs to be made during the draft right before the pick when a team knows who has been picked and who is available.

And as a general rule, I dislike trading away future picks. If we trade away a future first-round pick in this draft, I will lose it. There are very few players in this year's draft who should be drafted in the top 10.

Depends on the make up of your team... If you don't have a bunch of open roster spots for potential starters and/or primary role players... You trade up for quality... Because half the draft picks are likely not to stick around long... If you have an old and terrible roster with scattered aging vets on the way out (You probably suck)... You trade down and stock picks... It's obvious where Loomis thinks we've been for quite a long time.

I think too many people here value draft pick quantity over quality... What good is it to draft a bunch of Jordan Jackson's - Ian Books - Tommy Stevens - Saquan Hamptons - Alize Macks - Boston Scotts - Al-Quadin Muhammads - etc when for the most part they never end up on your team...

The guys you trade up for - are almost always are on your team and contribute long term.

And that's why the Saints have been one of the best drafting teams in the NFL since ML took over as GM... They trade up for premium players that will make impacts and they have a long term vision for, and don't trade down and play "let's see what sticks".
