Steve Young's first comments: New Orleans defense is too bad to threaten the Packers. (1 Viewer)

Let's face it: The Packers have a top notch offense. Is there defense that good? No.

In the first game of the season, the Saints played the Packers closer than ANY other team. Was it because of the defense? No. It was because of the offense.

Why have teams like the Bears and Detroit lost to the Packers? Because there offenses are NOT up to par with scoring alongside the Packer's offense. Yes, say what you will about Carolina, but that second week game shows that all you need is a solid offense and a couple of turnovers and you can BEAT THEM.

This is what the Saints are all about: Offense all around the field and get some turnovers. It's how we won in 2009. It's how we beat the Colts. It's how you can beat the Packers. I feel confident that if we manage to get to the NFC championship, we'll beat them this time.

WHO DAT.

Some things can't get fixed until after the season on D but in the meantime we got turnovers and we made them pay, keep doing this and we can hang with GB, SF, or anybody.

The game has changed so this is what you can expect without a pass rush from upfront. Packers turn you over, we did it and won it all, and unless you have a d that can rush upfront in today's league, turnovers is what it'll take.

Saints Superbowl win = ball hawk = Sharper type player

Reality!'

We don't got a a Sharper on "D"

I heard somewhere.. last 3 games Saints D hasn't given up a td in the first half ?

I know we gave up one TD on that long busted play.. and gave up another one in garbage time playin' prevent D, letting the giants eat up the clock. Looked like a pretty solid beat down other than that long td given up on the busted coverage.

Super Bowl or bust.

Yes, everyone's happy over the win ... but too many easy completions and a lot of missed tackles. Either Jenkins or Harper completely blew the coverage on the long TD pass.

Like the poster wrote ... if you're seriously thinking Super Bowl, these criticisms are legit. Nobody wants another one and done like the Seattle disaster.

A few comments. If you take issue with Young's comment, I for one welcome your comments. It was a big win. The offense was fantastic. But I also try to be a student of the game. My suggestion to those who feel any critique of the team tonight is inappropriate is to move on to different discussions.

The only knock on the defense is both Jenkins and Harper going as dumb as half this thread and actually biting on a freaking play action fake while up by 25 points... that was the facepalm moment of the night for the defense.

We had 39 turnovers that year, he didn't get all of them by himself.

Would it be nice to have? Of course, but it doesn't mean we can't take it away without one ballhawk.

If we keep going +2/+3 per game our D is SB winning good

But +9 after 9 games with the yards allowed is definitely not

The GB, Pats, and Saints D is not good enough to win a championship unless you factor in T/O differential

Guess you guys dont remember 09, when he had a lot of missed tackles, blown coverages and big runs.

I know we've been getting our turnovers latley, and not turning the ball over, thats winning football with the offense we have. You guys really need to step back enjoy football instead of being so critical all the time.

I was really worried about this game with the Giants being a wounded animal and they are built to beat us with a good front 4 pass rush. Our offensive line totally handled them, we are healthy, and yes, our D gives up some big plays but they did a good job in the redzone and in the 1st half they held the Giants to 3 points.

Good stuff IMO.

Stupid smirk on his face asked to sum up the Saints in one sentence. "I'll say what Aaron Rodgers would say - man, that's a scary offense, man, I'd love to play that defense."

What a ridiculous tool.
