If Gayle’s name or is not included in any of the emails, it has nothing to do with her. And even if so, it does not make her guilty of anything, UNLESS she was referred to in knowledge.

i am assuming, as most probably agree, Tom Benson gave millions of dollars to the Catholic church and some schools. That does not make him guilty of anything. Now if his name is associated and connected in anyway with emails that indicate a donation given specific in nature or remotely relative to a request from the Archdiocese to help pay for an abuse case (or many) that is a different story and would certainly be very disappointing and downright disgusting.

I hope and I pray, the latter is not the case. We shall see.

Make restitution? They should be prosecuted AND pay restitution to all parties. And if Gayle ends up being part of a conspiracy (which we have absolutely no idea), she should be forced to sell the Ssints and Pelicans. Everything right now is PURE CONJECTURE and speculation, without any of the emails and the context of those emails provided.

Agreed. The Church needs to stop acting like this is some internal corporate matter and just let it all be on display. Then deal with the ramifications. Not sure why you think we are on opposing sides here.

Messaging is always "massaged". "Massaged" doesn't necessarily mean "falsified" or "BSed". It can (and usually does from a PR standpoint) mean "doing the least damage". Any kind of proofreading and wordsmithing of public announcement is a form of massaging the messsage.

They put it all on display when they released the names of all the priests and their victims (those who'd openly sued them at least). We had a pretty large thread about it when it was released on the EE, I believe. The church is paying out big time and priests who aren't dead who were involved are being defrocked and charged.

I just don’t know what to say, other than a few expletives about just how stupid and unresponsible this is. We Saints fans deserve better than this. It’s a joke. Of course this is somehow going to end up bad for the Saints...knowing that history of this franchise how can you expect anything else but to have your soul absolutely crushed at this point.

If there was a situation where I wanted to get all the facts before speculating, this would probably be it.

The "advice" could have been anything from "stonewall the story" to "you have to come clean on everything, here's how you do that effectively without demeaning the victims any further."

And I would have no problem with donations that were being used to provide restitution to victims. I would have an intergalactic problem with a donation to maintain a coverup.

No one disagrees that horrible crimes were committed, and the church protected the guilty and failed to protect the innocent. Now that these matters have been dragged into the sunlight and it appears that some in the church are trying to make things right as best they can, I'm just going to wait for more information.

My suspicion is that Ramon Vargas will do his usual fantastic work, and then we can start with the pitchforks and bouquets, as applicable.

Indeed. Even if nothing illegal or immoral occurred it doesn't matter. The Press will run with appearances as though they are concrete proof. You can't give those self-serving liars even an appearance of wrongdoing. Especially in religion, most of them are Atheists and take great joy in destroying religion.
