An old wives tale i've heard about Shingles is that if they go all the way around and touch, you will die. I don't know enough about Shingles to know if thats even remotely true (although i do know Shingles can kill you). But a lot of poeple don't know you can't get Shingles unless you have had Chicken Pox. Since there is now a vaccine for Chicken Pox and children don't get it like they used to, I am assuming the cases of Shingles in the future will drop drastically.
Never knew that.... thx

I remember hitting chicken pox and being brought to houses in the neighborhood for the purpose of spreading it to other children. Reason being it was apparently easier to ride it out as a child, but not so much as an adult. I think. Maybe it was the measles. Or both.

I need to get the shingles shots. I’ll do the flu and new COVID as well. I just checked my LA Wallet and I’ve had five hits of Moderna.

Already had flu shot
Scheduled for COVID booster, shingles, tetanus, pneumonia, and Hep A tonight.

I don't remember ever having chicken mumps and the only person who would know is dead
My parents couldn't remember if I had chicken pox, too many kids, Dr. told me there was no way I reached my 50's without ever having them and that it didn't matter anyway, the vacc. won't give it to you. Just protect you from shingles.

They gave it to me. They wouldn't give me the pneumonia shot because I'm not 60 🙄

Getting a Covid booster and a flu shot together is better than getting them separately, a new study has found.

The study, presented at an annual Vaccines Summit in Boston, involved two groups of Massachusetts healthcare workers.

The first group of 12 received the bivalent Covid booster and seasonal influenza shot together. The second group of 30 healthcare workers received the Covid booster and flu shot on different days within the same month.

The antibodies of both groups were then measured. The research concluded that the group that had their shots administered together had higher levels of immunoglobulin G1, or IgG1 – the antibodies that counter Covid-19 and that strain of influenza.

Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, told the Guardian that it was an interesting finding.

“[It’s] possibly due to enhanced stimulation of the immune system by both vaccines being present at the same time,” Adalja said. “The key thing is to see if this has any kind of meaningful clinical benefit – do the higher levels of antibody translate into more protection against infection or disease?”

The study has not been peer-reviewed yet, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still recommends “getting a flu vaccine and Covid-19 vaccine at the same visit”.

The CDC does not give a reason for getting both together but assures it is safe.

The CDC cited one of its own studies on the side-effects that follow getting both shots at the same time. According to the CDC’s findings, although there are more side-effects associated with getting the Covid-19 booster and flu shot together, the side-effects are not as bad as only getting the Covid-19 booster.

The CDC says: “People who got a flu vaccine and Covid-19 monovalent vaccine at the same time were slightly more likely to have reactions including fatigue, headache, and muscle ache than people who only got a Covid-19 monovalent vaccine, but those reactions were mostly mild and went away quickly.”……..

So, I got the first set of Pfizer Covid vaccine shots when it came out, but never have gotten a booster. Can I still get a booster?

I don't see why you couldn't. You can experience a new kind of ded. I'm enjoying it

Well, as much as I tried to slow down time, I failed. I'm about to enter the realm of Medicare in January. So I'm delaying getting the new vaccine until I sort out my coverages, but I plan to get the new COVID (my sixth vaccination), Flu and Shingles at once.

Semi-related to this thread - my wife and I work together and she's starting to get a sore throat and sinus gunk - probably just the crud. We're going to Houston for the holiday with the grandson so I masked up when came to my office to help proof a layout. After she left I worked for about an hour before I realized I was still wearing the mask. Like seatbelts, it I really don't notice I'm wearing one.

The shingles vaccine hurt bad enough that I couldn't sleep. Make sure that you get that one on the arm that you don't sleep on.

i have a good friend who works with her husband and she hates it. once she got into a wreck and had to ride to work with him for a couple weeks, it almost ended in divorce. lol
she was like , that ride to and from work was my only time away from him and i missed it .

Yeah great advice, everyone should take notice.

I heard the 2nd shingles shot was the baddie. So, I'm in the Doc's office for my 1st shingles shot and my pneumonia shot. He is training an intern and asks if I mind that they both take a jab at me. Not a problem, except the intern had the shingles shot (oh had I known) and proceded to gore me like a matador in my right arm. Think of an extremely large rusty nail impaling you.

Silly me.... couldn't sleep for three nights on my favoured side.

In six months I'll get the 2nd shingles shot and if I will NOT forget to have my left arm play victim this time.
