Adam Schefter: I expect the Saints to have some level of interest in Mike Vrabel [mod edit]

Vrabel repeatedly proved himself as a brilliant gameday coach & tactician (like Belichick). He was stuck in a dysfunctional organization without having personnel control. He did not want Will Levis and was visibly upset over the draft day A.J. Brown trade. So any critique of his last couple seasons needs to be analyzed with those variables in mind.

What about the Tannehill years? Good regular season records with an average QB doesn’t seem like anything this fan base has an appetite for. At least they were trying with Levis. What did he want? More Tannehill?

Saints need an offensive-minded HC..

Vrabel could only have a chance to work if Loomis is gone, and Loomis will stay.

I think I've heard that story before about a coaches or player that came from a so called dysfunctional organization. I would rather a first time coach

Do they have an appetite for a coach who led them to the AFC Championship game with that average QB?

If you’re talking about Dennis Allen (I guess?) when did he ever have any of the success Vrabel had in Tennessee?

2 playoff wins in 5 years as HC? No I don’t think we’d be happy with that. It would be enough for Loomis to give him an extension we’d regret though.

From legends to coaches who have their teams in the thick of the playoff race (Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, Bill Cowher, Pete Carroll, Sean McDermott, John Harbaugh, DeMeco Ryans, Dan Quinn)... the list is long of successful head coaches who come from the defensive side of the ball.

Seems the expectation here is to get another Sean Payton/Sean McVay/Andy Reid type, a HC who calls the offense; and that's why fans want OC's who are successful with their current teams. But remember, Ben Johnson is not the HC of the Lions. It really depends on who a head coach brings in to call the offense, if he doesn't do it himself.
Johnson was already with the Lions before Campbell got there. All Campbel did was have the sense to promote him to OC. That team changed almost overnight when Johnson became OC. Campbel get way too much credit for the Lions turnaround, it should go to Johnson , Glenn, Holmes the GM and the scouting dept. Ohh and the Rams for trading that boatload of picks and Goff for Stafford

Who put the Lions roster together? Not Ben Johnson.
No he didn't , it was Brad Holmes the GM and the scouting dept. But Johnson almost singlehandedly turned that team around . Go look at the difference when he took over as OC. In 21 he took over an 0-8 offense and went 3-5-1 not great but they almost doubled the points scored . in 22 they scored close to or over 30, 9 times. I would take a Campbell as our next HC but only if we could get Holmes as GM and the scouting dept along with a Johnson and Glenn as OC and DC . Ohh and also a Stafford like haul in a trade

But when the Chiefs hired Reid, he was 1-3 in NFCGGs and 0-1 in his line Super Bowl. At the time.
Does not make a difference, he was successful , you think that Marv Levy would not have gotten another HC job even though he lost 4 SBs ?

I think there is a difference between hiring Reid in a second term Vs Allen.
Reid proved he deserved a second shot.
Allen proved he should have never even been in the running.

If Vrabel had been to 5 AFCCG’s and a Super Bowl, he would’ve gotten a job immediately like Reid did.
