Saints planned to interview Mike McCarthy; McCarthy didn’t garner enough interest from Saints and will take a year off

Complete made up fabrication of the truth. McCarthy has done nothing but under achieve with Dallas and Payton is overachieving in Denver. They’re nothing close to each other in success right now. McCarthy has also been fired from two head coaching jobs. Payton none. You guys make up the most random

Youre a hoot man. Even though broken clocks are right 2 times more a day than you are, it’s fun reading the stuff you come up with for sure.

who was the last coach not to underachieve in Dallas? Jimmy Johnson..

True. He imploded by failing in two consecutive playoffs and then missing the playoffs 2 seasons in a row before getting fired in Philly.

That's fine. Sniffs brought Reid into the discussion I think comparing Reid in Philly to McCarthy in Dallas. Something something.

I'm just not into picking up our next coach from the dumpster behind The Star.

Loomis took a chance on a young offensive coordinator in 2006, and I'd like that to happen again. I think you have said similar in your catalog of recent posts.

I feel like most of the people hating on McCarthy are doing so because a.) he has the stain of the Cowboys star on him, and b.) because he’s a long time coach with “only” one ring, and is deemed overall as a boring guy personality-wise.

The guy’s results as a team leader and program facilitator are remarkable though, akin to Sean Payton.

As Saints fans, we should all be well aware by now just how fragile a season could be and how sometimes, many times, acts outside of your control dictate whether or not you advance regularly in the playoffs.

Hell, even the year we won our only Super Bowl, do we get there if the Redskins’ kicker doesn’t miss a chip shot FG which eventually helped us get homefield advantage, or the ball doesn’t keep bouncing our way in the NFC title game, or we don’t win a literal OT coin flip in said title game?

Look at how often a candidate wins as the barometer, not championships.

Now, if we do find ourselves in a predicament where we keep getting there under him and losing in round 1, then we assess it then, but for now, give me the guy that manages to keep getting double digit win seasons.
It's because some people would rather be entertained than win. It's that " Go for it" . "Swing for the fences" mentality. But's it's the singles, double and sometimes triples that win championships.

And it's not just fans. I like Underhill and agree with him a lot but the kind of fascination with Brady I don't get. He's been an OC total of 3 seasons and bombed in the 1st 1 1/2. Plus he's had maybe the best QB in the league to work with along with a good WR corps and a very good RB. It's like Nick wants a shiny new toy to cover even though no one has any idea if he's HC material.

Maybe it's because no one's JOB is on the line with the next HC hire. Not Nick or any other so called sports reporter or any fan. I've heard things like " Let's just hire Rizzi for a yr and if he does not work out dump him" Even from the writers!!! Yup , that's going to make our organization a VERY attractive destination for a top HC SMH.

If KC would have fired Reid after only 1 playoff win in 2016 I'll bet a lot of these same people would have been saying the same thing about Reid that they are about McCarthy , only worse because he had not won a SB yet

A young offensive coach is my preference. But I would find it hard to find a lot of fault in hiring McCarty because although he isn't without fault, he's proven to be a good head coach.

Reid didn't win a ring in Philly, and no other Superbowl coach has gone somewhere else and won one.
Maybe it's because when a HC wins a SB and more so when they win a couple they stay with that team quite a few yrs. Quite a few retire. But there have been a few that have won with a team and made it back with another

What do you think that means? It's a completely irrelevant fact. Would you not have hired Payton if you were Denver?

At some point no QB had won a Super Bowl on two different teams, no team had won a Super Bowl as a Wild Card, nobody had landed on the moon, climbed Mount Everest, etc. But they all got done at some point.
It's like one of those super specific stats like no left handed hitter ever hit a HR while batting RH in Boston in the 9th on a Sunday afternoon in Oct.

How about comparing Reid before Mahomes to McCarthy? McCarthy was a better candidate than Reid , Reid had not won a SB

What a short memory some of you have. Do y’all not remember when he was our OC in the Haslett regime? If so you remember the complete collapse of Aaron Brooks and the year that McCarthy refused to bench Brooks when all we needed was to win 1 game of our final 3 but McCarthy and his arrogance would not put Jake Delhomme in or start any of those games. When we got to the final game of the season it was the last chance and he still would not start or put Delhomme in the game. Before anybody says “well obviously he wasn’t ready” the very next year Delhomme takes Carolina to the Superbowl!! You really want someone who made these kind of decision mistakes to be our HC? No way!
SMH. Do you not understand , it's the HC NOT the OC that makes a QB change ?????? Really ????

Better coach Dan Quinn or Mike McCarthy ?

The same way I knew the Saints would regret hiring Denise Allen not having Mike already signed and working on next season will be looked back upon as a a huge mistake.

I don't mind people preferring a different candidate.

But don't give lazy arguments of mccarthy won't have success. Or a retread line like that means anything then offer a kingsburry suggestion. Don't sit here and pretend like candidate x will be a better hire than mccarthy like you know the future.

I rather someone just say watching joe brady or kellen moore try to succeed in this league will be more fun for me than watching McCarthy coach whom i've watched coach for 18 years already.
The key word is TRY. I haven't seen anything from those 2 guys that make me confident they have what it takes to be a great HC. They may be good OCs. But someone please tell me what about their personalities , their coaching style, their command of players and leadership makes them the best HC candidates we can get? Because we need a HC that is not only good with X's and O's but someone that has shown STRONG leadership qualities

Well you can designate him as a June 1 cut. If you keep him. You know you are on the hook for 40 Million Dollars next year. If you cut him this year. You save 5 million off the cap, and you owe him nothing. You probably trade Tyrann and push that money down the road, The same with Taysom. Unless he agrees to a paycut. The same for Cam. Then you cut Cedrick Wilson, and Jamal Williams. You are under. You are going to suck this year. Draft young talent. Let your Coach pick his QB. Get a high draft pick, and draft Arch next year. Please do not tell me that you think we should pay Derek Carr 70 million Dollars for two years? That is what is sounds like you are suggesting.
Tell you what , I'll bet you a $25 donation to SR that Arch does NOT come out next yr
