2022--The Year We Move Up for a QB (2 Viewers)

qb class next year is really weak
This fact will determine when we daft high on a qb

Ian Book is the bar, if the top qbs talent isn’t higher rated than him by a considerable margin then we go a different direction

If this season tanks Book will see time , there will be enough on JW and TH to know where they stand.

IMO neither will be nothing more than wildcard at best level qb

The difference between them and Brees, Brady, Manning etc is throwing people open with accuracy and anticipation

Both hold the ball too long , often don’t throw until pressure forces

When we talk of our WR Corp take note of the fact that other than MT Brees never had a pro bowl WR, the two best were a 7th round pick and an UDFA , a WR carry over from Haslett with the drops in Devery and Meecham who sat hit 1st year until Brees and he got set

Our online the same, many have said it , Brees made the oline a passing oline - thiings have changed and we are going to the run

I say let's just come full circle and draft Arch Manning.

I mean, he's probably better now than anyone in next year's QB class anyway.

If you aren't going to stand behind Winston, you go all in on acquiring Wilson next season.
Though he would be absolutely miserable running this clown show offense Sean has going right now.

I say let Winston play the year out and see how he does, then re evauate. The QB class dont really impress me in 2022. If Winston has a good QBR rating, i say sign him to a 2 year /40 mill contract until we find out next QB.
You aren’t getting a 2 year $40m contract for a top 10 QB and if we don’t have a top 10 QB we need to draft one

Don't like the idea of betting the farm on a single player who might not see the field at all during that 1st season....doing so means that you're not trying to win it all that season. Unless there's been a rookie somewhere that won a SB at QB that I don't know about.

What I want to see is a continuation...building on whatever we accomplish this season, there's a good number of players on this team who'd probably rather not go through a blow it up phase.
Roethlisberger went to AFCCG in rookie year and won SB in year 2.

Mahomes in year 3.

Rookie QB doesn't mean your're 8-8 or worse for the next 3-4 years necessarily.

I'm not saying that we need to go draft a high pick QB. Just that nowadays your reasoning isn't the reason we shouldn't do it.

Wilson's cap hit would cripple this team.
You seem to forget that the team that trades for a player does not inherit the cap hit of the player's prorated signing bonus. The team that trades the player away retains it... so subtract $13M from each of Wilson's cap hits starting in 2022 (if such a trade were to happen).

If it happens, Wilson's 2022 cap hit would become $24M to his new team... and $27M in 2023.

Going back to Winston, if cut, his voided years total of $4.5M would come due when he is cut... so the cap hit delta in 2022 would be a total of $28.5M... so your statement above may be accurate after all.

It all depends on our record. 5-12, picking ninth? yes we move up for a QB.
Winston can still turn this thing around though. He had a good game against the Giants. I don't think he's done improving. Week 15 is probably when we can start having this conversation not week 5
This right here. We don't know what we have in Jameis yet, because he hasn't had a chance to play with all his weapons or a full OL. Lets get everyone back and see what he can do when CSP opens the playbook up.

This is my prediction. In the 2022 draft, the Saints will trade up in the first round to pick a quarterback. And if there is a quarterback Payton really likes, they will pay whatever price they have to pay to move up. My own favorite is Matt Corral of Ole Miss. Other quarterbacks listed as first-round possibilities are Carson Strong of Nevada. Malik Willis of Liberty, Sam Howel of North Carolina, and Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma.

But there are two types of teams in the NFL: Those that have a franchise quarterback and those that don't. The Saints currently fall in the latter category. Come 2022, we will fall in the former category.
Been saying this! Mahommes, jackson, allen, herbert will be in playoff hunt every year. We don’t need to see anymore from Winston. If you watched last night you should have noticed a huge difference in Herberts play vs winston. Im not saying Jameis is bad at all but he definitely is NOT elite. I know all the sunshine pumpers want to believe that but its 💯 the truth. So lets roll with him this year and draft our franchise quarterback

I wouldn't move up for any of them at this point. We will likely be in the teens. Most of those guys have looked awful with the exception of Corral or Ridder. Not sure there's a difference maker in this class.

Hey, Alexa, what are receivers and an O-line?

I don't think Payton's preference would be to go with a highly drafted rookie -- and this goes back to passing on Leinert/Young/Cutler to go with Brees. Draft picks are crap shoots, and he's just wasted the last couple of years trying to develop Hill. I think he'd much rather pluck a sure thing that has already gone through some growing pains and proven he can play in the league.
