Amazon Prime increasing rates (1 Viewer)

I'm just tempted to quit all of it cold turkey. I can live without all of that if I need to.

Fwiw, if the ads are before or after a movie or show, I don't mind. During? Eh, no.
I guess I really don’t mind ads but I hate when they are right in the middle of a scene. Give me a natural break and I’ll watch 90 seconds of ads.

There's discussion on the interwebs that the ad free tier of prime still has unskippable trailers which Amazon doesn't consider to be ads

I have seven services (Prime, Max, Netflix, Paramount, Disney, Crunchyroll, and Hulu). I don't really count Prime because I don't have that membership primarily for streaming. Of the remaining services, the kids and I use Crunchyroll, Paramount, and Disney the most, so those will stick around. If my son and I can ever sit down to finish watching Smallville, then Hulu will be go bye bye. I just cancelled Max and Netflix we haven't used either in a couple of months and that's $32 I'd rather hang on to. It's amazing how quickly the services pile up and the amount of money wasted if you're not actively watching the hell out of all of them.

The trick is finding that pricing sweet spot that you’ll just pay it every month even knowing you rarely watch

Just a dollar or two more can be enough to tip the scales to “cancel”

yeah, nothing rips me out of a show like a commercial smack dab in the middle (usually much louder than the show you are watching) for insurance, or whatever. Ads front-loaded, before a show... tolerable. In the middle... not so much. Ads at the end.. well nobody would probably watch those.

I don't have a real issue with ads, but the double-dipping. Paying for content, then paying again, in a different way, by having ads forced upon you.

It should ideally be:

free w/ ads
paid w/o ads

I really only pay for Amazon and HBO. I share that with my brother who shares Netflix with me. I get Hulu and Disney free through Verizon. Paramount + is free from another friend who uses my Spectrum. I actually turn on the tv and can’t remember what the heck app I was watching before. For Instance The Bear (good show) I switch apps 3 or 4 times trying to find it. Life was much simpler with just cable or just direct tv.

And honestly I don’t watch that much new content. It’s mainly old reruns like Big Bang Theory, Seinfeld, etc. I think the only show I watch on network tv is Survivor.

Everyone is cracking down on password sharing

Not so much for the people who give it to their brother

But because of the people who shared it with 45 dam people

So, my kids can't watch D+ while they are at their mothers? Bummer. Guess she needs to splurge and get her own account.

apparently if you pay for the ad-free luxury, you can't skip the trailers. B/c amazon, in some strange logic, does not consider trailers to be ads...

The only thing these streaming companies will listen to are the dollar signs. As long as people keep paying, the prices are going to keep climbing and the ads will increase.

Well ok then. I'll stop sending them $.
