Hope they enjoy the 7-8 games he plays in before he starts getting little injuries that keep him out multiple games. Dude played I think one full season here. Never lived up to his draft spot

Think penning is gonna surprise a lot of people next year.
I’m optimistic, we didn’t have a great line last year. New players give us hope for improvement, staying with what we had gave us no reason to be optimistic.Hurst, Peat and probably Ram gone. Count me as worried.
You will probably live to see 100 with that attitude.I’m optimistic, we didn’t have a great line last year. New players give us hope for improvement, staying with what we had gave us no reason to be optimistic.
they havent had a practice that im aware of since end of year where he finished on the benchWhy not? Are you at practice? The coaches see more than we do. Just saying.
For years I thought Peat was a talented but wildly inconsistent, injury prone player that could be upgraded. The Saints saw the total opposite. Apparently they saw him as a foundational piece that had to be retained at all cost. So they had a bidding war with themselves and made Peat one of the highest paid Guards in the league. I try not to use the word hate so I'll just say that I had an extreme dislike for that contract. I looked forward to the day that contract would come off the books. I looked forward to seeing Peat move on to wallow around on the ground and post up in the training room for some other team.
But then a funny thing happened last year. Andrus Peat went from fighting for a starting spot at Guard to being a rock solid replacement at LT for the struggling Penning. The O line went from "Oh my god!" to ", "Oh. Okay." They struggled in the middle of the season but they finished strong winning 4 of their last 5 games to heroically finish at 9-8 and being this close to the playoffs. I now realize that having Peat on the roster was better than not having Peat on the roster. He's still a starting caliber Guard and perhaps the best backup LT in the league. I never thought I'd say this but I'll miss Andrus Peat.
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone.
My thoughts... Penning arguably played his best game against the Patriots and then was benched. He obviously struggled mightily the first 5 weeks of the season, but showed some minor improvement. We are changing offensive line philosophy with our new offensive coaching staff. We might even see McCoy and Ruiz swap positions. I think on paper and based upon what we saw last season, the offensive line appears to be a frightening major weakness. We've lost Peat, Hurst, and Ramczyk and are filling those positions with unproven players and a rookie. That's a lot to digest. It may take several games or even a full season to have that line learn to play together, let alone gel. All of the projected players are talented and the new staff members are offensive line specialists. It's a very boom or bust situation. Honestly, I'm chomping at the bit to see how it's all going to play out! I think the coaches have a plan and I'm cautiously optimistic that they're going to be able to put together a decent line.Much has been said about the Saints and their "great play" in the month of December. How they looked competitive against the Rams (L) and beat the Giants, Panthers, Bucs and Falcons. Well, Peat was the LT during that stint. He is gone with all hopes on......Penning. Peat, while maligned and criticized here was good. Not great but good. I don't think the Saints, outside of McCoy, have good anywhere on the line.
Call me pessimistic but I think that last December is a false hope for this year. One it was the Giants, Panthers, Bucs and Falcons and two, they had a "not bad" O-line.
I want them to win every game but 2024 is looking to be a struggle.
