Andy Dalton is PFF’s 2nd highest graded passer this season (1 Viewer)

I am not going to bring up rushing (even though it is an integral part of Hurts' game), because the tweet in the OP says passer rating, and skip records as well. But just passing:

Hurts 67.3% 3,472 yds 8.2 avg 22 TDs 5 INTs
Burrow 68.2% 3,885 yds 7.6 avg 31 TDs 10 INTs
Dalton 66.8% 2,403 yds 7.6 avg 17 TDs 7 INTs

In what world is Andy Dalton rated higher than Hurts and Burrow?
PFF world, I guess.
I remember an article early in the season when in week one Mahomes had a 75% completion rating, 360 yards, 5 TD’s, and 0 INT’s. He was the 8th rated passer by PFF that week. I hardly paid attention to PFF before that but I haven’t paid attention to PFF since.

If PFF had Jameis at #2 there would be a lot less people saying “PFF is a joke.”

It’s a metric of performance that can’t really tell the whole story. Dalton is playing well, but he isn’t going to outright win you games. That’s not what the metric does.
What use is the metric if it sees a vanilla game manager performance as 2nd best QB performance in the league? He’s bad on 3rd down, bad in the 4th quarter, rarely makes big plays, but he’s 2nd best?

He manages the game, sure, but there’s a reason he was signed for pennies on the dollar compared to those other guys. If NFL GM’s used PFF’s guidance, Dalton would be getting a $100m+ contract next year.

Point is he isn't top 2 in anything QB related. That's a ridiculous claim. This just shows why using stats to justify someone's play can skew the truth. I'm sure completion % factors into their metric. So he's getting kudos for throwing 2 yard passes on 3rd & 10.
Who are you to say otherwise ? 😂😂😂😂

Andrew Dalton reminds me of Bobby Scott, Steve Walsh, Dave Wilson some, and Trevor Siemian.

Nice guys, you would love to have them as a next door neighbor.

But if you look at the numbers, you have to wonder, what stats is PFF using? Can't be completion rate, can't be total yards or yards per game, can't be TDs, can't be INTs...

And that last sentence in the OP's tweet, "if we exclude red zone plays" LOL.

Sure... except at the QB position... and if I have to quantify why.... It's not worth the discussion.

Edit: and to be clear, I am not beating up on Dalton... He's just not the guy who gives us the best chance to win at QB... we all know who is.... but he's not getting the opportunity - TH7 .

We all know it??
Dalton has not been a terrible QB. The numbers don't lie. I know there is a group of Saints fans that are on the Winston bandwagon. Winston might have a higher ceiling but he also has a lower floor.

Interesting that all the Dalton defenders are saying he "isn't bad" or "not terrible." No one saying he is good.

It's super hard to evaluate QB play with such deficiencies at all levels of leadership. Dalton or Winston may have been a lot better under a decent scheme for them.

This is hilarious. Look at the guys on that list and their records. I don't know what metric they use, but that dude hasn't played like a top 15 QB. No way he is #2.
Completely disagree. Dalton has had a career season. His running game, protection, and WR have not played well. Dude has made fantastic plays all year.

You’re obviously not watching

Dalton has been EXCELLENT. I didn’t stutter.

For reference, in terms of quarterback rating (not ESPN's total QBR) he is ranked 7th in the league.

I've been a defender of his most of the season and I stand by the opinion that he has played very well in almost every game. In a normal year, with a competent coaching staff, we would have easily dominated the division with Dalton at QB.

The other names are really good QBs that are having a good season. I don't need a metric to tell me that. I've watched every snap of Dalton's Saints tenure. He is not top 2 under any metric system. That's why it's a joke. The line about excluding red zone plays proves it. He's garbage in the red zone.
Especially with TD drops by his receivers, fumbles in the red zone with RB's.

Since this is all about numbers, that's going to depend on Jameis' numbers, and I would love to know which numbers PFF is using, because the mathematics we know tell us Dalton cannot possibly be rated higher than Joe Burrow.
