Anyone else question why did Carr leap? (2 Viewers)

Agreed , he made a split second decision.
Isn't making split second decisions what QB's get paid for?

Someone questions why a QB makes a split second decision and throws a pass into tight triple coverage and the ball gets intercepted, 99.9% of fans say is a bad decision and the QB should not have thrown that pass.

But question why a QB tries to leap over a 6'2" receiver, "how dare you?!?!".

It was a bad decision, no more, no less. "He's a competitor", "he's the worst", "who dare you?", "no, how dare you?" I'll leave you to that.

Good God. The guy busted his arse for the team but it's still not good enough. In a split second he didn't make the perfect decision. For his sake I hope he moves on to a fan base that will at least be fair with him. This is ridiculous.
The lack of football knowledge that are in threads like this should at least entertain you a little. That’s how I have to view it lol

I actually think this play represents who Derek Carr is as a player. He looks flashy, but he is missing key decision making ability in crucifial situations. He's why we'll never win a wuper bowl with him.
I think the reaction from the fan base is pretty telling, as well. Carr has been injured multiple times since coming to New Orleans, the latest, fighting for extra yardage and he gets very little love for having done so. Had Spencer Rattler done the same thing he'd have been lauded for his moxie or whatever BS term is popular with the sports radio crowd.

We probably have Carr for one more season, at least, as I don't see Carson Beck or Quinn Ewers as having great, NFL-READY transition intangibles to quickly or gradually evolve into good NFL starters. Regrettably, I do see some scenarios where maybe a few desperate NFL teams and GM's looking to rapidly reboot a 3-4 year process into just a 1-2 years and take a chance on either Beck or Ewers. They'll make a similar mistake the Panthers did choosing Bryce Young over C.J. Stroud (even though former Panthers HC Frank Reich and most of the team wanted Stroud, ultimately, their idiot owner David Tepper's opinion won out and that disaster of a pick occured.)

Let's see how Carr does with hopefully a younger, fresher, more motivated HC who can focus entirely on rebuilding and reinforcing our supporting cast. Build up and bulk up on the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Every year of Carrs career his fans have been saying, "Carr just needs........"

Spoken like a true Raider fan. I have a buddy that lives in LA and is about as die hard raider as they come the second we got him as our QB he said the same exact thing to me. He loves reading NOLA.com just to send me every article that mentions what the Saints need to help Carr.

Honestly I was there and saw the leap up close and personal. He really didn't need to do it, the fall was worst in real life than how it looked on TV.

Honestly, the moment it happened I thought it was great. Our QB is putting it on the line for the team. Maybe the fans will start appreciating Carr. Then we he didn't get up my initial reaction was that he did too much and lost himself for the team.

But as an athlete you have to believe and play like you can beat the guy across from you. And in the moment you want to do whatever it takes to win the moment. I believe Carr did that. If I were playing next to him I would play with a little more motivation after seeing him want it so bad.

The outrage is real.

Had Carr dove behind Austin, he probably gets the 1st down.

But for whatever reason, he decided to leap over (more like go through) Austin, and whacked Austin in the head in the process.

It was a bad decision. Pointing out is was a bad decision is not hate. Calm down,
Sure, and he was looking at the play from 3 angles, in super slow motion with some still shots to analyze, and don’t forget a little 50-50 hindsight to go with it.

Pretty much where I'm at. You don't want your leaders to lose the aggressiveness that made them leaders to begin with. He was trying to make a play in the moment. I won't fault him for that.

And the team didn't quit after he went out. They played to the end and won the game.

And the silver lining is we'll get the backups some game experience and maybe figure out who the future is between Haener or Rattler or if we need to go get another QB assuming Carr is done after next season.
