Anyone else question why did Carr leap? (3 Viewers)

Is it not possible to be appreciative of the effort and applaud it, while also pointing out it was a terrible decision?
I think so, but that's not exactly what I'm reading from some of these posts. Some have other motives for doing so. I've never taken you for a Carr's hater, so it doesn't apply to you.
Wouldn’t the chance of getting that 1st down have been higher w/ Carr on the field instead of Haener?
I'd probably say Haener could get there a little quicker. Whether he makes it, who knows?

It was stupid. The morality mob will bully you to submission or cancel you if you're doxxed, but there's a reason every coach in the league tells their franchise QB to slide. It wasn't even 3rd down. Much less 4th. And you are the QB getting paid $30M a year. It was moronic. I bet he would tell you the same thing and regrets the mistake. And no matter what you want to say, it was a mistake. A costly mistake.

It also looks like he was trying to leap behind Austin but was pushed by the defender into the fray and got vaulted higher. I agree with the claim of a split decision on his part and can't fault him for wanting the first down and that in hindsight was ill-advised.

And most are saying it was a bad choice, but there are many are taking it to very insulting levels when all he was doing was being aggressive. The "calm down" part was unnecessary.
Watch the video. Carr tried to leap over a very much standing up Austin, so much that he whacked Austin in the head. Carr didn't get push into Austin. The only reason why the defender touched Carr was because Carr collided with Austin.

I don't know why some are so indignant that others say it was a bad decision by Carr. It was a bad decision. The right decision would've been to dive behind Austin and stay in bounds, not try to leap over a guy he obviously cant leap over.

And being aggressive doesn't necessarily lead to good decisions.

he got pushed by the db, he was trying to go behind austin
He was not pushed at all. Notice how Carr's trajectory doesn't change as he leaps. Why would he go that high if he wanted to leap behind Austin?

How? That isn't a very good angle. The above the field shots and full speed film show it much differently.

He was gonna get drilled by the guy on the right so over/through was his only option from his view.

It's not hate, but it was only a bad decision because he didn't make it far enough and hurt himself in the process. If he makes it, we wouldn't be having this discussion. And he came very close to making it.
Watch the video.

And yet, they still didn't get a first down. So... :9:.

If he dives, he's gonna be at least 2, if not 3 yards short. Hindsight is a lot different than in the heat of the moment.

Watch the video.

I watched the video. There ain't no place to dive there. If anything it's into the knees of one of the players. He's got nowhere to go there. I mean he could have stayed on the ground and tried to push through them. That's probably what I would have done, but I can see why he was trying. He wanted that first down in a bad way because that gives the team another set of downs and forces them to use their timeouts.

Hindsight, yeah, it was a bad decision, but when you're in the middle of it trying to make a play and win the game, you'll make decisions in a moment and sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Ok... so the rules are... the ball is down where ever the ball goes out of bounds... so the moment he leapt and went out of bounds the play was over regardless of if he landed past the 1st down marker... so it was dumb decision from top to bottom. Like moronic levels of stupid. The clock needed to run, he is the QB he should know this, stupid. Leaping put himself in severe danger, moronic. The ground is turf, so it is pretty much concrete with a thin carpet over it. The full momentum of running and falling from 6 feet in the air was going to just land on concrete... unless he planned to ride Kevin's back to save him from the fall....

All equivalent to a HOSPITAL BALL. A literal hospital leap.

After a few views of that odd leap from Dereck Carr on the play where he hurt/broke? his hand and face planted into a semi concussion.......I began to see just how unnecessary and frankly, unaware that sequence of events was. IF, mighty big IF here; DC had put his shoulder down, followed the block of whoever was there and rammed ahead for yardage? He not only gets the first but acts like a real footballer and uses his momentum and a blocker for the yardage~!

If he "thought" he was going Full Taysom on that play? Well, that's a FAIL~! Taysom would have bulled his way and NOT gone airborne where few things good come of those plays~! Heck, We've seen Reggie go airborne but only when he was hurdling a would be tackler or leaping into the End Zone but even then on rare occasions.

I hope Carr reviews this play and bows up enough to KNOW he could have made a football move to use his pads and helmet to protect a solid hit to move forward~! That leaping stuff just isn't something someone as non-athletic as Carr should have tried and now? He's really screwed us going forward without him, YET? Who knows? Just maybe Heaner (sp?) or even Rattler can pull themselves together enough to become a Purdy or Williams of Stroud or Burrows or one of those great QBs who start right away and make the TEAM better??? Let's WIN OUT to make the whole scenario more interesting~!
Best to Derek Carr's recovery and I haven't even heard of DiNuccio or whoever........He just may be the answer , but I surely doubt that~!
He slam dunked himself on that play

Good grief, never have 2 or 3 seconds of video been so over-analyzed since the JFK assassination. It was a move we see NFL runners make multiple times every Sunday. Carr made a nano-second decision and fans here seem to think that he should have had a whole weeks time to consider it, as they have. Is there really any rational reason to blame Carr for his injuries?
