I like how handing someone covering their face something to sign without actually talking to or greeting them is the same thing as someone randomly vandalizing your vehicle. Got it. Now I'm so offended. I must cry about it. Who shall hold me?

It's not the exact same but the point is there for you to see when you decide to stop being so offended over people arguing that what Coleman did was wrong.

The guy was ASKING A FAVOR
The next time he should bring a megaphone and announce "i am giving marques colston AND ONLY MARQUES COLSTON permission to sign my shirt"

Some of y'all are tripping like a blonde in a horror movie

Just because someone asks a favor, that does not give you the right to do what was not asked and ruin that person's property. Don't act as though Coleman did not know what he was doing. He was dressed as Colston and someone handed him a Colston jersey to sign. Are you seriously going to argue that Coleman should not have known that the fan handed the jersey to him under permission that he would be getting Colston's authentic signature on it? If it were just generic items like footballs and such, then it wouldn't have been such a big deal; but to put your signature on another player's jersey knowing that wasn't what the fan wanted?

It astounds me that some people are so incapable of realizing why the fan was upset.

A lot of upset folks in here about a random guy's signature. I love the Saints also, but dang, it's just a bunch of dudes in their 20s and 30s who are athletic. Colston has been awesome, but still, why would someone older than 12 care about him signing something? That has to suck standing out there signing a bunch of signatures everyday.

Look I'm not a big fan of autographs either. But:

Why would someone over 12 buy a player's jersey?

or pay $300 a seat to watch a game they can see on TV for free?

or spend hours talking about a game on an internet forum?

or spend hours watching youtube clips hoping we might learn something about a player our favorite team might draft?

I don't think we need to draw lines, all of us are on here because we are somewhat obsessed with the Saints right?

I can't believe this story even grew roots. If Colston is your friend's "second favorite player behind Drew," he should know what he looks like. Poor guy -- he got an NFL player's autograph. Had Coleman not signed the jersey, he probably wouldn't have gotten an autograph on it at all. Sheesh...

I have an almost new Colston Jersey with no signatures I will swap out for the Cooks signed/Colston Jersey. The story alone, makes that jersey worth more than anyone you can buy.

I think many here realize why the fan might have been upset, but perhaps they just don't agree the fan should have been so upset. And some fans might even be astounded that others seem unable to find at least a small measure of joy in getting to play a memorable role in a little practical joke that proved players can be human and amuse themselves without doing something illegal or obscene.

Good points, just seems it has to be annoying signing signatures all day and pretending you enjoy it. I love watching and talking about Saints football, just couldn't imagine getting mad over a signature.

I'll never understand grown men asking football players for autographs. That's just me I guess.

That jersey would be awesome if Colston drew a line through Coleman's signature, initialed the scratch out, and signed his own name under Coleman's.

Lol.

I would imagine most spent hours in high school and college perfecting their signature dreaming that people would want it.

I'm sure it gets annoying after a while, but I think the smarter players understand how much it means to the fans.

I can see being upset about it in a way. Been a Saints fan from before the Ditka days but could never really afford a jersey. The first jersey I ever had was from my daughter and it was a Birthday present, and it was a Colston jersey. When he was first drafted almost Mr. Irrelevant I told my daughter he was going to be a special player for us. So to my surprise she bought me my first jersey. I would love to get him to sign it, not for kicks, not to show off or brag, not to sell, but to frame and remind me of my bond with my daughter. If Coleman did that as a joke I wouldn't make a big deal about it, but the jersey wouldn't mean as much to me if Colston actually signed it. But to be honest it would be the only autograph I would want for that reason.

I performed with a group that was very popular in Europe and HUGE in Italy especially - we signed lots of autographs
At first it's cool as hell, but after awhile it just becomes a thing
OP's friend is mad bc that was his one chance with Colston
But it was also probably coleman's 300th signature and would have been Colston's 10,000th
The fans of course want it to be a special thing- but the irony list on OP's friend and all of his supporters with their absurd comparisons, is that he DD get a very special thing - he just can't see it

Thank you so much for saying this. So many fans being kind of self righteous about something just because they "don't get it". Plenty of people "don't get" our fascination with sports. Or our love for the Saints. Or many many other things in our lives that we love. Let people like what they like, don't look down on them and don't talk down to them for their little part of fandom.
