So just have Colston sign it too. If Coleman makes something of himself in the NFL it'll be MUCH more valuable. Even if not then It's still a great keepsake with more of a story behind it than most.

It's a funny story. They were just having a windup, not having a joke at your friend's expense. He has a jersey autographed by Coleman. Your friend will just have to get over it.

You have to remember; you aren't ENTITLED to an autograph by these players. They are human beings too and they don't owe you anything just because you showed up. Thankfully most of them DO take the time to acknowledge the fans that have made them who they are, but to expect it of them is just unrealistic and rude.

Uhh, aren't the fans helping pay their salaries by purchasing jerseys and/or tickets, and whatever other Saints memorabilia?

I get what you're saying about not being entitled......but I didn't really get a "rude fan" vibe from this story at all.

My mother and father aren't "entitled" to having me call and wish them a Happy Mother's and Father's Day every May and June, but I still do it because of all they did for me when I was growing up. The same way Brandon Coleman should not have ruined some memorabilia that was purchased to benefit the team that cuts his checks.

he just did.. It is called an apology. Not an entitlement.

So Coleman is entitled to mark up someone else's property unapprovingly (under false pretenses) and then just shrug it off with an "It was a joke. lol" apology"?

Also, from Coleman's tweets, it was for multiple fans. At most of the TC practices I have been to (and it has been quite a few), many of those seeking autographs are kids. So it isn't always grown men seeking an autograph from grown men. My 13 year-old niece loves getting autographs from Saints players, and I don't think she would find this funny.

I just can't see this as much more than something that, sure, wasn't a great idea and shouldn't happen again; nor is it something people should get angry over. Player and fan interactions, and getting autographs, shouldn't be serious business.

Sounds like it was something lighthearted that not much thought went into. Happens. Learn from it and go on.

I have little doubt that a much bigger deal will be made of this than should be.

Here's a pic from picnic

Coleman is entitled to nothing besides enjoying himself. You are entitled to have your feelings hurt however you please or you can go enjoy yourself as well.

Coleman has constantly been compared to Colston, saying he is the next Colston, the second coming of Colston for the last year. He made a joke out of it. People can cry about it. Boo hoo. He apologized. He still enjoys his joke.

Go start a riot. Welcome to McDonalds, how may we offend you today? Would you like some cries with that?

Sorry I don't agree with you fellas on this. He spent good money on a Colston jersey (assuming its not a knockoff) and wanted it signed by Colston. Nothing wrong with that. Had he wanted just any old jersey signed by any old player, then it would have been a good joke-making people think they were getting a Colston sig. However that's not the case. He had a Colston jersey and wanted Colston to sign it.

edited to add: I know some of you have signed jersey's. I don't think any of you would find it funny to have your Drew Brees jerseys signed by someone else, and you would not have them framed and hanging on your wall. That is all this guy wanted, a Colston jersey signed BY Colston

Let's say the hot girl at the party agrees to my pleas for a kiss
I close my eye for the kiss but she lets her less attractive cousin give the kiss
- now I can be cool and laugh with everyone, or I can be a B and demand something that was never really mine

Now people are talking about the $100 shirt
Why does that matter? (and I'm poor, so don't think that I think $100 is nothing)
- If he bought it as memorabilia then he's lost no value
- If he bought it for "marketability" then that's only at the good grace of the player - he's wanting something for nothing (he didn't buy the shirt from Colston)

Coleman is not entitled to enjoying himself at the expense of ruining other people's property. It's the people who think that's okay who should be compared to people starting riots (not that it should have even been brought up in this thread).

I'm guessing if a fan keyed "Marques Colston #12" into Coleman's car and then later said, "Hey, it was just a joke. lol" that Coleman wouldn't have been smiling about it.

I totally get why your friend was bummed -- Coleman and Colston are not at all on the same level in terms of Legendary Saints. And as others have said, if Coleman becomes a Legendary Saint, then it'll be fantastic.

If there is such a thing as a "fair joke", everyone could've had a laugh if he had only signed generic items (footballs, helmets, not "Colston"-specific stuff), and it would've spared him the PR kerfuffle...

I say grown ups asking for the signature of other grown ups is a weird practice. :idunno:

I agree with this let the kids get them.

How could a grown man stand in a line in front of kids?

I don't get it either

Wow
Wwwwoooowwwwww
Why do people in deep holes keep digging?
The person is handing over his property to have a football player sign it - in what way is colston/coleman under some sort of contract to this guy?

At Training Camp - Joke or Not Funny At All

That's a very cool story to tell the grand kids when he eventually hands em the jersey. I'd laugh harder then anyone if it happened to me.

Look up because the point just went over your head. The person did not hand over the jersey to Coleman to sign his name on it. Coleman duped the person under false pretenses and marked up the person's property with something other than what the person was giving permission to do to it.
