Bellamy in Stoutmire out? (1 Viewer)

So Bryon Scott must really stink huh. I knew he wasn't very good from his ATL days, but I still thought he was better than an aged Bellamy... I know alot of you really like Jay, but he scares the cr@p outta me when I see him in there in passing situations.

Scott was inactive Sunday so he really never got the chance but i think he will get his shot at some point if he is healthy.

Dont get me wrong he's gonna be very good, but I think that Bullocks needs guidance and Harper is to fresh to provide it.QUOTE]

Yeah, I guess you're right about that. I forget just how young Bullocks really is. While I'm not exactly thrilled about Bellamy possibly starting, I wish we would have at least kept Bellamy on the roster as a backup to help show the young guys the ropes.

Dont get me wrong he's gonna be very good, but I think that Bullocks needs guidance and Harper is to fresh to provide it. For example in game 1 against Tampa when BOTH safties bit on play action TWICE. When Tampa was max protect and Galloway WAS THE ONLY RECIEVER IN. This is something that will correct itself in time, but our last line of defense has to be more experienced.

Before Harper was injured, he made the defensive secondary calls and did a pretty good job of it. I think his abilities, even as a rookie, helped cover up the deficencies that Bullocks has shown. Stoutmire was not able to pickup that slack and often found himself out position. I think with Bellamy we'll get some of that back and I'm hoping that his presence along with his experience will lead to better play by Bullocks. There was a sharp increase in the number of deep passes completed against our secondary after Harper went down with his injury. I don't think that was a coincidence.

The deep passes against our defense were there before Harper went down just not as many.(If i'm not mistaken the very first offensive play this season was that deep pass to Braylon Edwards). IMO Bellamy and Bullocks as our safties is the best combo (even if Harper was healthy), but thats just for now. Harper and Bullocks are gonna be a really good tandem for us, but the learning curve is obvious.

I noticed Jay was in the game as I saw him making two big stop (behind the line?) last week. He came like crazy and looked like he was enjoying it! I like this guy since he moved to SS.

Look at the play where Crumpler was wide open and ran the ball down to the Atl 1 yard line. Stoutmire was on Crumpler and when Crumpler broke out, instead of changing direction and going with Crumpler, Stoutmire did a big loop around and you don't see him in the picture again until about the 15 yard line.

I have seen him use this same poor technique many times this year and everytime the reciever is left wide open.

That was a sick move he put on Stoutmire... I think Crumpler could have gotten anybody with that move.

Now in saying that... I'm glad Bellamy is getting the nod... I'm tired of watching Stoutmire ankle-bite on tackles... Bellamy comes up and lays wood when he fills... now if we can get Danny Clark in there on 1st down then my prayers will be toally answered. :ezbill:

Bellamy is a much surer tackler too. I was getting so fed up with watching Stoutmire diving at peoples feet and trying to swat a fly off their laces in an attempt to tackle. Bellamy only really lost his starting job to Bullocks because of injury last season (then Bullocks proved he was worthy of his place)before that he was a solid starter and I for one am glad he's back in the fold.

All the Bellamy naysayers on here have always said hes a liability in coverage because hes so slow now. I personally have no idea.

He was slow for a cover two, and slower than most free safeties. That never stopped Venturi though. :spit:

I think he's a better safety than Stoutmire, in all areas.
He just gets to the ball carrier better and makes the play.

Coverage for a safety is less about speed and more about positioning. Part of that positioning in not letting someone get behind you. Bellamy will be a large improvement for the Saints defense over Stoutmire.
