Bill Barnwell Explains Why the Jaguars are the best landing spot for Marshon Lattimore (1 Viewer)

He's missed 50% of his starts the last 2 seasons. I like Latt when he is on the field, but he costs a lot of money for someone only playing 50% of the games.

True, but there is nothing to spend the money on this year anyway. So, you can keep him this year and trade him next year if they don't get the offer they want this year. Maybe his value goes down next year, but the value of a 4th or a 5th next year isn't that different than a 3rd or 4th this year. All those picks are likely outside the top 100 so are more or less lottery tickets.

Am I missing something? Maybe he won’t sit this year and will get better. Are people giving up on him based on last year?

Does Jacksonville have a surplus of good players at any position?

Big picture, Adebo is in a contract yr if he plays as well or better than last yr he's gonna cost $$$. We just drafted a highly regarded outside CB in Kool-aid. We have Taylor who is much better on the outside. I really wanted a late 1st but I'll take a mid 2nd. It's also the cap savings to consider trading him after 6/1 , I think it's a pretty significant amount

Nobody wants to see him traded but the writings is kinda on the wall for his case. You don't draft arguably one of the best CB in the draft to let him sit.

There's that.. and the tea leaves say that this is Latt's last season in NOLA with the contract restructure the team did. They'll either trade him before/during this season, or they'll cut him when the season is over. Might as well get something for him, and its even better if he can go to the AFC.

The trades haven't been the issue. The issue has been how we used the picks we got.
Well that’s a different argument for sure. I don’t remember who we picked up with the CJ 5th. Olave is great. Breese is good. Penning…let’s just call it incomplete for now. But he was projected to go about where we picked him.

The Stephon Anthony pick as part of the graham trade was a disaster.

Yeah that's the other issue...if/when we cut him due to contract language we do not get a comp pick (pending him actually staying healthy and producing)...that is why a 1st (lol) or even a 2nd RD pick aren't coming back for him. Not to mention the CB market just isn't bringing back much these days.

A 3rd and a young prospect / project TE is what was traded for Jaylen Ramsey... that's the rate for Lattimore. That price can go up if a team has injuries and is desperate... That price can go down if ML is a malcontent, or has an injury... but the Ramsey deal is the baseline.
Lattimore isn’t as good as Ramsey was. Ramsey was very possibly the best CB in the NFL at the time.

The thing is, we don’t have to trade Latt. If a team wants him then they’ll have to pay or else we just keep him and our CB room is all the better for it.

Now if he truly is disgruntled with the team, that somewhat drops his value. But the Saints don’t have to trade him and Loomis would be a fool to let him go for little in return.

I love Latt. The team is better with Latt on it.

That being said, you're not just trading the player, you're trading the contract. Getting a top 100 pick and the salary relief is probably the smart move to make. It's time to reload.
