Elon fired most of the twitter staff, and let the service be overrun by bots. You don't need any political motivation to think twitter sucks.
He’s always been a bit of a controversial, borderline fringe type of character or public personality even when he just owned Tesla, so this isn’t anything new he’s just turned up the volume quite a bit. Still, there are those who have had no problem finding political motivations to dislike him or Twitter.

Still, I’m not a huge fan of social media and don’t have an X or META (formerly Facebook) accounts. My reasons are both practical and personal as I hold my privacy in high regard and don’t prefer sharing or disclosing my hobbies/interests with potentially _______ amount of users worldwide.

If your legitimacy is dependent upon whether you pay him or not, your legitimacy is in question.
Not to sound too contrarian, but basic/complex business ethics aside, most corporations legitimacy or continued existence relies on mass consumers purchasing their products and making hundreds of millions or billions in revenue yearly. I could devise and work extremely hard on what I believe will be a highly valued commodity like let’s say an early version of HD Dolby Surround 5.1 sound 35 years ago but someone else completes a better, more marketable version, my legitimacy as a successful businessman in that context isn’t great.

That is absolutely not what is going on with the blue check. The blue check was a verification that you were a legitimate person and not a bot or just some random troll with 5 different accounts used to stir up sheet. If he was planning on making the bulk of his revenue on income from blue checks, he gambled wrong.

I gave up on Twitter a bit over a year ago. I’ve been on Bluesky for about 6 months but I wasn’t doing much on it until after this election when many of my former Twitter buddies jumped in. I even grabbed my companies name when I noticed it hadn’t been taken. I’m in the process of handing it over to them.
