BOOGER MCFARLAND (2 Viewers)

Albeit slightly, but he did move him just a tad. Like I said, it's ticky tack, but if he doesn't touch him there's no call.

Announcers can state their opinion. If he had said Brees was the GOAT during a Pats game then this whole board would love him for it.
Momentum moved him. Call that, and everything like it, and passing would be impossible. It's not OPI.

Announcers can state their opinion. That doesn't mean every opinion they make is appropriate. I don't care what the board would've loved, if he said Brees was the GOAT right after Brady broke a major record it would still be unprofessional.

Ok. I can't think of any announcers as legendary as Pat & Madden. Obviously they felt he was a good choice. Regardless of how you feel about him that doesn't take away his right to say Brady is the GOAT. The refs called interference and he agreed. Once again, had he said during a Patriots broadcast when Tom broke a record that Brees was the GOAT all of you wouldn't have a thing to say and you would talk mess about Patriot fans who didn't like it. Hypocritical!

You make some valid points, but making up what you think people would say in a completely hypothetical situation and then calling them hypocrites for words you put into their mouths isn’t a great idea. Just sayin.....

It may be hypothetical, but I've been around SR for a long time. Trust me that is an accurate statement. Especially with how much this board has changed the more successful the team has gotten. I know you wouldn't agree that if Booger did that people on here would say, "Can you believe he had the nerves to call Drew the GOAT while Brady was celebrating? He is terrible and the worst ever!" We both now that wouldn't happen.

And many here wouldn't care and would love to rub that in a Pat's fans face. I'm not saying he was right, but in conversation he said Brady is the GOAT, but Brees is the most accurate QB ever. I take no offense to that statement.

Look at it again. You can see the effect TQS had on his movement.

One hundred percent agree. To me he is top 5 for sure but not to any that I’ve ever talked to outside of Saints fans.

Just asked my brother again, (asked last season too) where he ranks Drew. He’s a die hard Skins fan.
Folks on here get upset when anybody does anything but praise Drew. You can't even talk bad about him when he has a multiple interception game. I get it. But folks in the media who aren't Saints fans will likely have an opinion that doesn't jive with that of a Saints fan. It's just common sense.

Booger is trash. Case closed. Not hypothetical just reality.

Look man, people have opinions that don’t jive with reality. When we are discussing who is the better quarterback and someone mentions an MVP award that is a freaking popularity contest??? Well, it gets tired and old after a while to be surrounded by people saying dumb things. Like how do you even argue with someone about that? They can’t separate “greatness as a player and part of a dynastic team” from “ability as a player,” conflating team with individual feats, and constantly injecting subjectivity where it doesn’t belong. I don’t care if McFarland is salty or just a network stooge but what he said and when he said it was classless and I don’t want to hear it because it ruins a precious moment.

If that ruined the moment for you then you are a little sensitive my friend. Someone else's opinion shouldn't matter that much.

I agree that MVP awards are a popularity contest and that Drew has been more than deserving of winning that award in the past. That being said, who cares really? The GOAT discussion is one that will never be a factual one. It's always just everybody's opinion. It's not a provable thing so I could care less if someone agrees with me that Drew is the GOAT. I'll point out my reasons why, but in the end it's all just our opinion.

So tell me. What was Booger to do? Say, "Drew Brees is the greatest quarterback to ever play the game!" simply because it's Drew's moment? The other guy in the booth asked a question and he responded. He gave Drew credit for his incredible accuracy, but stopped short of crowning him the GOAT. Put him in the same class as the majority of analyst who are finally arriving at a point where they are considering putting him in the top 5. He has never gotten the respect he deserves because his teams have not always been good. Not his fault, but QB's are paid the most money to win and they are judged by their ability to do so. In an effort to bring evidence into the case they look at things like Rings & MVP's. It's a faulty logic, but it's what the norm is.

I get what you're saying, but.....
If anything, you have to admit Booger's comments were in poor taste.
Brees just set the all time record for most TDs and Booger feels that it was an appropriate time to voice his opinion of the greatest QB to ever play the game.
You wouldn't say something disparaging about the groom at his wedding would you? Same rule applies.
It wasn't the appropriate time nor place to express his opinion on the matter.
