Britney Griner released 12-08-2022 (3 Viewers)

I'm not one of those people who are all "tHe MeDiA iS eViL" but I absolutely hate when they report on anything related to the military, because 95% of the time they fork it up.

He had a bad conduct discharge. He didn't serve "honorably." He can't even get any veteran benefits with that type of discharge. I still want him home, though, as I believe every American in custody should be home, no matter their background.
Damn, he’s not even getting the free dinner at Applebees?

Would have much preferred both Whelan and Griner to have been included, but yes.

I would also say the same thing if we had gotten back only Whelan in this deal and not Griner.
I think if we got Whelan back instead of Griner there would have been riots in the streets.

I wouldn’t have a problem lifting sanctions that don’t work (or are slow developing) if it led to the release of another American. No point in keeping a bad contract on the team if the player isn’t helping the team.

And it’s not just El Caliente saying that sanctions are ineffective, leaders in Europe are saying it too.

As the son of Cuban parents who were born and raised under US sanctions placed on Cuba, I can appreciate what sanctions are meant to do, but Castro never left, he only got wealthier, things never got better, and the restrictions were never lifted.

I don’t think the restrictions are helping the people y’all seem to think they are mean to help.

you are operating from the assumption that Putin would gladly accept this

its getting comical now.

Maybe, haven't thought about that. I don't really think it would play out like that but I could be wrong. Those theoretical people rioting would have been wrong and misguided in doing so however.

So you're ok with the exchange?

I don't think it's that simple but I've made several posts, have you read them?

I'm relieved Griner has been released but I recognize this is more complicated than a situation that can adequately be described as "ok". Difficult circumstances often don't have neatly satisfying outcomes.

This would really be more accurate to how I feel than my "yes" response to his post.

Since 2020, those people are existing less in theory, and more in reality though.

A weed smoking basketball player for a notorious arms dealer and terrorist?
You forgot how she beat the brakes off her fiancée. Real class act.

Sure, I just don't see people taking to the streets and rioting over her.
If that were the only lens that it was being viewed from, then perhaps.

But in this day and age when race is always brought into question, a white guy being released (while the black woman remains locked up) would go over about as well as a turd in the punch bowl.
