Burrow and Manning comparison (2 Viewers)

Eli Manning, the mediocre QB who could barely complete 60% of his passes for his career in an era where that's quite underwhelming.

That Eli Manning?

The OP has it right in terms of NFL ready cerebral QBs coming out of college. Peyton is the only comparison I can make in the past 20+ years of someone so ready for the NFL.

You have to remember that when these comparisons are made, it’s about them as college prospects.

For example, Walterfootball compares Burrow to Trubisky, not the NFL version, but his skill set out of college.

The OP is right to some extent.....

But accuracy and velocity he throws like Kurt Warner. That many times in a row, and that accurately only Warner threw it like that.....but more elusive than Warner, he was like a statue.

Indianapolis was a dumpster fire when Peyton was drafted too. They did already have Bill Polian as GM, but I think that Burrow's very presence in Cincinnati will help them attract good front office personnel, much as how David Griffin went to the Cavs when LeBron went back there.

That may be but we're talking about Mike Brown who by all accounts is one of the cheapest and worst owners in the NFL.

Attracting good front office personnel and letting them make football decisions in Cincinnati just doesn't exist. Why do you think they've been the dumpster fire that they've been for so long?

And Jim Irsay is a drunken fool, they still managed to get it done

Got it.

Thanks for the clarification.

Strong as in built stouter than Burrow.

I’d guess his arm was stronger as well but not sure.
Luck was definitely a big QB. Although I don't think anybody who watched Joe play this season would question his size and toughness as a QB. Even though that's not what you're saying.

Luck was 6'4" 240. My guess is that Joe is about 225-230. So he's a really perfect size for his 6'4" frame. He'll definitely be able to endure hits. Plus he admits that he loves being hit.

So from a size perspective, Burrow is closest to Luck.

Accuracy and pocket awareness is very nearly on the level of Brees.

Confident/cockiness of an Aaron Rodgers.

Competitiveness is probably along the lines of a Brady.

He's got all the traits you look for in a franchise quarterback.

Luck also ran a 4.5 40.

I doubt Burrow comes close.

Some perspective:

"To this day, Luck's 40-yard dash of 4.67 remains in the 83rd percentile at the quarterback position. His 36-inch vertical? The 92nd percentile. His 124-inch broad jump, the 96th percentile, and his 6.80 time in the three-cone drill is in the 92nd percentile. "

Lets see what Burrow even does at the combine first to merit these lofty comparisons to Hall of famers.

If Burrow is drafted by the Bengals he'll be going from one extreme to another.

The Bengals are a dumpster fire and have been for a very long time under Mike Brown.

Burrow had a great season but he had a great supporting cast of playmakers/coaches around him and that's something he won't have in Cincinnati.

He'll take some lumps in the NFL.

WR - AJ Green
WR - Tyler Boyd
WR - John Ross
WR - Alex Erickson
RB - Joe Mixon
TE - Tyler Eiffert
TE - CJ Uzomah

They're not elite, but they have legit weapons. I really don't know much about their OL or Defense, but since they don't have a glaring hole at any of their skill positions, they can draft Burrow and still beef up one or the other (or both) through Free Agency and the Draft.

The Bengals have approx. 50 million in cap space, and there's talk they could cut bait with Andy Dalton. If so, they'd have about 57 million in cap room. Or they could keep Dalton and allow Burrow to get a handle on things before throwing him into the fire. I don't know all the ins and outs of their free agents and cap space... but with the first pick in every round of the draft, and 50+ million available to add talent through Free Agency... If they make good decisions, they have the tools they need to build a quality team around Burrow.

I would think luck would disagree completely with you.

That drunken fool allowed the line to never be addressed even during Manning's playing time.

Their job was to get rid of it quick cuz we are not getting top linemen.

Both got beat up. Both had serious injury because of it.

Do you think drew could have taken the beating luck took?

Yes I will give you that Irsay is pretty much a fool but the Colts had Bill Polian as a GM and the Bengals have what.......................

Owner(s)Mike Brown
PresidentMike Brown
General managerMike Brown

"Mike Brown, the team's de facto general manager,[6] has been rated as among the worst team owners in American professional sports.[7] "......................that's from their wikipedia page.

That's the Bengals problem right there.

They have that much money in cap space every season and there's a reason why.

Mike Brown and good decisions should never be used in the same sentence.

He is notoriously cheap and won't fork out the money that it takes to build a decent team. A buddy of mine is a huge Bengals fan (for whatever reason) and I almost feel sorry for him some times.

Well, every now and then you gotta spend. If you're taking a blue chip QB with the #1 pick overall and you don't give your best shot at building a team around him, then you get what you get. The whole Ohio's son storyline (if they draft him) would make me think the ownership would realize that he's got a marketing golden goose. That might loosen the purse strings some. And with revenue sharing, the other owners might pressure him into opening his wallet.

I totally agree with what you're saying but we are talking about Mike Brown.

The only thing that separates Mike Brown from Jerry Jones is that Jones will open his checkbook and pay players.

Burrow reminds me more of Tom Brady than any QB I can think of. Same body, same arm, same smarts, same confidence, same mental toughness.
