Comic Book Talk (6 Viewers)

I've been going through my Captain America collection and finding which tie-ins that I would need to complete some story arcs that carry over to other titles. I was looking for one shots and limited series but I have everything that I know about.

Today I was at my LCS looking for Secret Empire tie-ins and I was able to find parts of some limited series that the store owner hadn't heard of. There's two series that I can't complete online without buying from the U.K.

I thought that I was done (other than the Timely and Atlas books from the 40's and 50's, and filling in some blanks from Tales of Suspense).

I have 2 long boxes filled with duplicates and books that I don't want. They're worthless. I think that the next time that I have a garage sale I'm going to put a big price on them to keep the adults away but give them to the first kid who looks genuinely interested.

Ummmmmm... I might wanna look through those boxes.

Today's X-Factor #10 has a situation that, I suspect, will lead to the, upcoming, "Trial of Magneto." I'm undecided if I want to buy the resulting books because this is going to be big but will crossover to a lot of books which will make it expensive.

That's what Marvel does. They go big.

I don't like it when they do that. Years ago I tried to follow the first Onslaught run. I have a nearly full long box and the story is far from complete.

I finally finished the run of Secret Empire and it's tie-ins. It's nearly an entire short-box and that's without the aftermath books.

Dude, I swore after getting every tie-in for Infinity Gauntlet that I would never do that again. I ended up doing it again for Knightfall and for No Man's Land. But I am lucky to say I haven't since.

So what are you guys reading now? Outside of some Bat books and X-books, I am almost entirely indies these days. Radiant Black and Shadecraft are both excellent.

Marvel:

Anything Captain America
Black Widow
Infinite Destinies (tie in story)

Image:

Department of Truth
Nocterra
I have issues of Nocterra, but haven't read it yet. How is it?

Reading RASL by Jeff Smith

just finished Sithrah by Jason Brubaker

Also rereading Chew

It's pretty good. I'm going to give it 10 issues before I decide if I'm going to collect it, if it lasts that long. I guess that it could be like the Walking Dead where they just keep struggling but this story seems to have a finish line.

Hope so. Scott Snyder is infamous for not finishing a story... EVER.

I just got the "Marvel Previews" magazine at the LCS.

It looks like volume 9 of Captain America will end at #30 next week. In the meantime they're doing "The United States of Captain America." A super powered individual stole the shield and is dressed like Captain America. Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson are chasing them and meeting individuals who cosplay Captain America and try to make a difference locally. It's a cheesy idea but the first issue is good.

This Black Widow run is very good. They're on issue 8. It became so popular that issue 6 sold out on day 1 and the price of some of the variant covers went nuts.

Hickman's X-Men run has been great. They're getting ready to tie that up.

There's a "Death of Doctor Strange" 5 issue series about to start.

A teamup of The Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Champions, Heroes for Hire, and the Spider-People called Dark Ages (6 issues) looks interesting.

A one-shot called "The Darkhold Alpha" is coming which features The Scarlet Witch, Doctor Doom, and Chthon might be interesting.

Onslaught is back in a one-shot. This has been hinted at in the X books lately.

The Trial of Magneto is about to start. It'll probably end up being a humans vs. mutants thing. I don't want to spoil it but, the Mutants were having a big party. Representatives of most planets, nations, and super teams are present and the body of a super powered individual was found. At the end of X-Factor Wolverine is holding the body asking "Where's Magneto."

There's a Kang the Conqueror 5 issue series coming. I don't know if I'll mess with that.

Amazing Fantasy 1-5 will be a story where Captain America is pulled out of the 40's with Red Room Black Widow, and a teen-age Spider-Man to meet in some kind of battleworld. I'll buy it because two of my favorite characters are in it.

And a new volume of Moon Knight is starting up.

So I take it you're a Marvel "fanboy?"

:hihi:
