Comic Book Talk (4 Viewers)

So I take it you're a Marvel "fanboy?"

:hihi:
Mostly Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon, and Winter Soldier. I don't care much for the ridiculously powerful characters.

I watch YouTube videos about other books and I'll use Marvel Unlimited to read other character stories of I'm interested.

Image has a few good books that I follow.

D.C. has never worked for me. My older cousins had boxes of golden age D.C. i used to sit and read the books when I would go there for holidays. The stories about killer Jack in the Boxes were riveting. The other stories about the main character being terrified that somebody might discover their secret identity were equally entertaining.

In grading news. CGC just got bought out by an investment firm. Wonder if that will improve their turnaround time.

Is it a coincidence that they raised their prices last month?
That's been my problem with comics lately - they're just so darn expensive, even if you're reading just a few titles.

Probably not. I see both that and this sale as cashing in on the speculator boom sweeping everything right now. They've probably never been in higher demand.

Some of the names of the investors are quite interesting...

Roc Nation (Jay-Z's company)
Andre Iguodala
Daryl Morey (76ers President)

And a few investment firms.

They're definitely looking to cash in.

An investment firm will want to minimize costs. Quality might drop. This might be good for CBCS though. CBCS' quality isn't the same but it may end up better.

They've slowly gotten better since they were bought by Beckett. And they always got one thing going for them that CGC won't do - verify signatures without witnesses.

Not sure of who all is a Spider-man fan and a Funko Pop collector here, but I know we're all Saints fans and this one is definitely one I'm buying. I put it in the spoiler tag in case you don't want any possible spoilers for No Way Home.

Speaking of Spider-Man, Ben Reilly it's going to be taking over the mantle soon.

Truly sad. He was the artist on Aquaman. Brazil has been dealing with a shortage of vaccines from the start.

News of the day... James Tynion IV is leaving DC. Time for a new Batman writer.

This whole Substack exodus thing is...interesting. Many creators involved. Even rumors that Jonathan Hickman may be leaving the showrunner role on the X-Books and headed over as well.

It's no secret that there's not much money in being a creator for the big 2 these days, and that the go to strategy for creators has been to make a name there before moving on to creator owned indie stuff that they can leverage for more money.

But this feels different. Not just guys leaving for creator owned work, but guys in relatively high profile gigs leaving them completely. Kind of a 2020's spin on the Image guys leaving Marvel back in the day. I have no idea if it will work, of course.

Yeah, JT was offered a lucrative 3-year exclusive deal to stay at DC and turned it down.
