Commanders and Saints large presence at Sam Howells Pro Day. (1 Viewer)

Pickett is far, far better than Book as a prospect. It's not even close. Pickett is basically ready to start. I'm not saying he's better than Winston right now or he's a franchise QB.
Only reason your saying that is you know they will come after you for it.

Your a genisus in your own mind 😂

He was pointing out that it's not just RPO/running QBs that get hurt. Even pocket QBs like Winston get hurt.

Which is true although having guys running down field taking on LBs and Safties probably gets you hurt more often (anecdotally and I have no stats to prove it), if a guy is smart and slides or gets to the sidelines before getting hit, it's probably no more risky to be a QB that runs and, arguably, a more mobile QB is going to take less hits from big DL because they will be out of the pocket sliding.

Overall, I think it's true that if you play QB like Hill and Jackson, who don't tend to avoid contract and sometimes welcome it, you will get hurt more often. But, guys like Josh Allen and Russ who use their running ability to buy more time and run only when it's open and they can slide, probably don't get hurt more often because they aren't taking big hits while sitting in the pocket.

If you watch this highlight video I'm impressed with his receivers. Downs reminds me of Harty.

When he runs, he has a Kamara-esque quality to him in that he looks like he's been stopped but somehow keeps going and breaks out into the open. And he doesn't look fast, but seems to pull away from defenders. Some of those touchdown runs scream "how did he do that?"

Yeah, he's not incredibly fast but seems to know when to run, has good enough speed to get where he thinks he can get, and has good vision. He's also appears to have good size to take a few hits.

With the caveat that this is all highlights so they aren't going to show the bad stuff, as a thrower he appears to have a very good arm. But, what impresses me the most is his ball placement. I saw a few back shoulder throws, throws to where only the receiver can get it, and throws places where the receiver can keep running when the ball gets there. But, since this is highlights, I'm not sure if he can or does do those things consistently. Based on his likely draft position, I'm guessing not.

That being said, he is going to have to learn how to play under center because he looks to have always been in the shotgun running a lot of RPOs. So, how good he will be will depend on how smart he is and how willing he is to work on learning and NFL offense, how to play under center and doing the good things consistently.

Howell is my 2b QB in this draft. I really like his moxie. There is no "complete" QB in this draft, but there are some I like more than others. I do not care where we draft these guys, I just want to find a solid player.
(my list in order)
1. Matt Corral
2a. Desmond Ridder
2b. Sam Howell
4. Malik Willis
5. Bailey Zappe

I like Howell a lot.

A lot of people thought he had top overall pick potential heading into this season. Then all his top WRs left and things fell apart a bit.

His height is a bit of a concern. But beyond that, he has everything you could possibly want in a QB. He needs a lot of coaching, especially with maintaining consistent mechanics.

But I would much rather take a shot at him in round 2 or 3 than reach for a QB who may not be worth it in the first.

But the post you quoted was talking about the leagues RPO QB’s not lasting long due to getting hurt. And you just, out of the blue, threw Jameis into that topic. Like he too is a scrambling, RPO QB. What’s Jameis injury got to do with RPO injuries.
He doesn't like Jameis.

Meh, guy likes to run a lot, he's gonna get beat up in the NFL if he plays that way. He has a cannon though but I hope he doesn't run that much in the pros.
I'm not just a Tar Heel fan in hoops but I got to watched a lot of their football games thanks to the ACC Network. To speak on his running, Sam doesn't like to run, he did so out of necessity cause Carolina didn't have any run game last year. They lost their 2 best backs to the draft last year (Carter and Williams).

So Sam running would not be a thing in the NFL. He's a pass first QB.

Overall, he had his moments but I question his decision making at times. I'm "meh" on him. I actually liked Trubisky a lot more than Sam.

What have you seen? The draft is a month away and they haven't picked anyone. Of course they have guys at every Pro-Day and they are going to be particularly interested in ever QB until they know they have their franchise QB. It only makes sense to see these guys in person, talk to them, and see what they can do. Just because Ireland was at his pro-day doesn't mean they are thinking of taking him at #18. I'm thinking maybe they are looking at him in the 3rd or at the earliest the 2nd.

Can we at least wait until they make the picks before we birch about the draft?
The approaching if certain positions. Everyone with eyes can see the Saints havent been talking tonWRs and Olinemen kike they are expected to. This draft is critical. We can win a SB with Jameis snd that defense. We gotta draft like it.
