I'm probably too cynical for my own good, but I just can't make myself care about the "seniors are missing out!" stories in all of this. People are literally dying in droves. The economy is in its most precarious situation in almost 100 years. Sorry you don't get to party, but if that's your biggest problem you're doing pretty well.

In turn you should consider yourself lucky you don't have a HS senior in your house right now. All I can say. Because the part about the economy being in the toilet isn't lost on them either, as they enter adulthood at the worst possible time since 1930.

A month ago this guy was basically saying that this is all a sham. Now he is dead and first one in his county to die. How bad that must be to go like that knowing people are staying home and suspending their way of life to keep you safe and the health workers are putting in overtime to save your life.

So this is where we're at now? Creeping people's Facebook to write stories about people after they're dead? I'm so ashamed of the human race these days. Perhaps we all deserve what's happening when we choose agenda over compassion.

We are living this exact experience with my daughter. Turns 18 in early May, has been at home since March 13, graduation cancelled, 18th birthday party cancelled, senior trip to Hangout fest cancelled, all of it.
It's rough. Not 'hopsitalized with COVID-19' rough, but for a 17 year old, it's about as bad as it gets.

How is she handling it on a scale of disappointed to world ending?

or without kids or simply had a really ho hum high school experience

one of the three.

One of the greatest aspects of High School, is the friendships, the stories, the events and the fact that you dont have massive responsibilities.

Its not all about parties. But damn if i didnt attend some epic throw downs. ( looking at you Park Timbers- sorry for partying - toga style )

Its about formulating friendships and navigating relationships and simply being around your friends. They are losing out on all of that. Zoom/Facetime is not the same.

This your first time reading the daily mail?

Interesting but it also makes me cynical. It doesn't matter what the scientists learn - we're just going to go back to the way it was as soon as possible.
From my little corner of the world I'm not seeing the scientists "saving the day" on this one. They seem to be about 2 years behind which is where they were in 1918.

She alternates between depressed and red-hot angry. Losing her senior year is bitterly disappointing - the idea that she may not be able to leave for college in the fall seems world ending.

I agree. That's what my first sentence was about them shushing..i..e don't complain.

This experience is likely to color their attitudes for the rest of their lives. My parents lived through the depression, and they never forgot what that was like.
Edit: I have no idea why St, Ward's post got quoted.

Interesting that these computer models have us in Louisiana ahead of most other states in the region.

I'm sure I've seen articles from there but I don't go out of my way to follow any particular news source. That article is disappointing. Terrible and disappointing is about the only thing that comes to mind. Who does that to a family and can sleep at night?

Like the blanket assumption that people don't travel and interact with people outside of their immediate geographic area?

Unless people from the Atlanta area are not allowed to travel and interact with people in the Taliaferro County area, the difference isn't even in the neighborhood of huge.

Yes, agreed... some travel restrictions and other common sense measures to keep social distancing, increased sanitation methods, increased robust testing, and best practice containment and tracing are still needed...

I said as much 5 pages ago.

Read all of my posts... not just the one on a specific topic I was responding to out of context please... there was no blanket assumption.

My point was... this needs to be handled on a case by case, state by state, county by county, etc. basis... because there are a handful of densely populated areas in each state that have impacted greatly, and for every one of them... there are hundreds of sparsely populated areas that have not. Those places can re-open now... no reason not to as long as the common sense measures I already suggested are followed / put in place.
