We live in an oligarchy. We bail out billionaires every time there's a crisis while the general population gets crumbs. The only way to change that is to vote people into office who will not continue that trend. It's up to each person to decide what that means to them.

I typed and backspaced my comment on this so many times but then decided to just say, I like Turtles.

Look it up. Mitigation is based on future assumptions

No it's not. It's based on prior experience with other epidemics, science and common sense. Estimates are based on future assumptions. Estimates don't always pan out as planned, but planning and preparation has proven historically to reduce the rate of spread of viruses.

I really hope that this isnt true , but.. I spoke with someone today who is very close to the ‘powers that be’ in re to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and this person said that it is extremely likely that there will be no Mardi Gras in 2021.. i asked this person to repeat themselves, since that’s almost a year away.. but unfortunately he said that an official announcement will be made soon, since a lot of the planning on the part of hotels, krewes, logistics etc happens years (plural) ahead of time, and the idea of bringing in a million people from around the world into close contact in less than a year from now just cannot happen, for public health reasons, and that a vaccine would not have been approved AND distributed around the world by then.. .. Sucks if true .

I'll feel bad for the workers who won't make the money they usually make during Mardi Gras season, but I don't mind missing out on events if it's saving lives. I have a feeling that we're going to see the repercussions of this outbreak for a long time to come

Yeah, I can't say that would be surprising though. The issue we may have is that it's quite possible we'll be in the midst of a second wave of the virus at that time, so the odds are not good that doing Mardi Gras next year will be safe. I don't envy the decision makers on this. They're gonna get criticized no matter what decision is made.

The best way to achieve that end is to separate "our" legislators from their corporate bribe money and make their job to create and enforce laws that benefit the electorate, not corporate America. As it is now, their job is to get re-elected and keep that cash cow giving milk. If I engaged in the same professional practices as congress, I'd be sitting in front of the OT ethics board explaining why I thought I should be allowed to continue practicing OT.

Congress serves at the behest of the electorate, and it's time they are reminded of that fact.

like I stated at the beginning....Congress did not structure this bill to do what they told us it was going to do

there is only 2 possibilities....they either did it on purpose or, even with the army of lawyers and advisors available, or they did it on accident. I don't read minds and really it doesn't matter. Either way it means they are not fit for office (in general...I am sure there are some exceptions. maybe.)

these bastages have lived posh lifestyles off our tax dollars and whatever gifts/kickbacks they can get playing their little power games and when a crisis came up and we needed them to do the job they are there to do they failed. No ifs, ands, or buts
We need to quit playing the "they all suck except my guy" game and vote them out. Then overhaul salary and perks, and see how many of them are willing to really serve the electorate vs serving themselves.

But wait, there's more stupidity from the mayor...

This thread of videos is one of the most bizarre and disturbing threads I have watched regarding this entire pandemic. Good lord. We really have a bunch of clowns in high places throughout the country. Like seriously, a bunch of ignorant morons.

I mean, I get the need to open up, and have made several posts indicating that we are heading to a point where tough decisions will need to be throughout the nation because we can't afford to live like this for several months, but her lack of understanding of the nature and serious of the decision and situation at hand has me very alarmed.

Makes sense. You gotta be a little forked in the head one way or another to even consider running for public office.
