Apparently that's how long Americans can maintain some sort of self-isolation.

Honestly, I think for this to work a definitive end date needs to be given, otherwise anxiety levels rise and people freak out. I think we could do a month if that was outlined up front with a post lock-down plan.
 
It's a classic game theory problem. Everyone would be better off if we all just stayed home, but if you don't trust other people will do it, then you're less likely to do it yourself.

The only way we can do a month is if Congress gives assurances of backing up businesses and individuals with the current stimulus plan. Since that's still pending, I don't see how it's possible or feasible. Only after that passes and gets signed into law should we do a one month stay at home plan for most, if not all of the country.

Just because it can survive that long doesn't necessarily mean it remains potent enough to infect an individual that long. Survivability and potential to infect people are two different things.
