Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (4 Viewers)

I been using teatv. Has anyone put it on a firebox.
Tea Tv is ok, the regular ads don't bother me, but sometimes I get one of those loud video ads that you can't get out of. I quit using it because of that. TV Zion, I have the same issue with, but you can pay to get rid of the ads that will also give access to dedicated servers to pull links from (like $1.25/m). it will also give access to some very good settings to tweak to help prioritize the links. I was able to pull tons if 4K links, not that I can use them because of my data cap, thanks to COX.
I usually stick with CybeFlix and Titanium TV since they are ad free without subscription.

so I ran into the first snafu with using my Amazon Recast. When I moved, I am now in a building of plaster and concrete outside and the windows I need to use open to a court yard where it isn't nearly as open as I had it before. With the current antenna I am picking up channels but several key channels are too weak. NBC being the worst offender.

I have one that was removed from Amazon but it claimed 120 miles and it is amplified. It was one of the flat square ones you put in a window with a 25 foot coaxial cable. Anyone have any suggestions on a better antenna (outdoor doesn't really look to be an option either without drilling an unauthorized hole.

clearly the mile claims are arbitrary or something. Wirecutter ranks the best to be Clearstream Eclipse which only has 50 mile range. I am probably not 50 miles from any of the towers though.

I’ve been following this guy on YouTube for a few years.
He has tons of videos and I think he would answer your questions if you contact him.

I have this one. It’s says indoor / outdoor, but obviously large for an indoor window. Maybe you could hide it behind some blinds.

Lastly, there’s an app for your phone called antenna point. It’ll show you where the broadcast are coming from, hopefully you have a window pointed in that direction.

I can definitely vouch for the unreliability of indoor antennas, living in an apartment. I have the Mohu Max, the one he recommended, and I still miss out of some stations, particularly CBS and PBS.

I can’t get CBS at my house. But used to live about 3 miles north of where I’m at and could catch it with the same antenna. Must be in a dead zone here.

I pay ~ 160 a month for 1GB internet (Comcast), Hulu Live, Disney +, Apple TV, ESPN + and stream it all via Apple TV and ROKU.
My building is sadly slave to only Comcast even though I live in Washington DC and Verizon FIOS is avail everywhere in my area but my damn building. Unless you don't use much internet, I don't think its possible to truly cut the coord and depending on where you live, like me in Washington DC they make internet only pricing so astronomically high to try to force you to sign up for their packages. I wish I didn't need the internet but its become a must have in our household due to so many of our day to day living habits. ARGH!!!

lots of good info to help me cut my research time.

I am on the first floor so my trouble is twofold. I have to figure out a way to get the cable to the outside without a hole (maybe beside the dryer vent?, not sure) And then I would have the issue of getting it to an elevated point that I probably can't get access to and wouldn't be able to go past a neighbors balcony. I can certainly hide it behind blinds. It won't look bad inside and I don't care so much about outside (though the GF may)

Thanks for posting Swampy!

  • Sling Blue is now $30/mo
  • Sling Orange + Sling Blue is now $45/mo
  • The 4 Extras Deal is now $12/mo
  • Sports Extra is now $15/mowith Sling Orange + Sling Blue (Sports Extra remains $10/moas an add‑on to either the Sling Orange or Sling Blue base services)
  • The Total TV Deal is now $25/mo for Sling Orange + Sling Blue (Total TV Deal remains $20/mo as an add‑on to either the Sling Orange or Sling Blue base services)

Youtube TV is causing me some real problems during sports events - if the camera zooms in on a player, its fine, but as soon as the action starts, the resolution drops or just freezes altogether.

My other apps (Netflix) etc are not having this problem so I'm pretty sure its not my wifi. I was at the Dome but my family reports the game was almost unwatchable (from technical standpoint, not the, uh, content).

Anyone else having this problem with YTTV?

So far, no issues.

I need to do some more digging to make sure its not something on the hardware or wifi side of things, but will keep you posted. It's getting pretty bad.

I would try hard wiring whatever device you are using to eliminate the wifi as the culprit.
