Yes, black tie, lingerie, toga. We all got drunk and decided to go the lingerie route. Our wives wore togas. The ship captain were a blonde wig and print dress. He walked by me, drink in hand, and said “This is what 16 years in the British Navy does to you”

I have a picture of him and the others as well. It was a hell of a trip

The key to that is to not let other misfortunes bring you down but absolutely learn from other’s experiences. Not every relationship is the same and should not be treated as such. Sometimes you may throw up your hands and the answer is right in front of you.

Hating being alone is a reason all enough to end it unless you really love the person. I know those that hate being alone and it never ends well for them. You need to be ok with being alone for a reasonable amount of time at least

Yeah after my divorce I figured dating in my 40s would be easier because people were more mature.

The unfortunate truth is that if you are single at this point in your life, the odds are you either are the problem or you have trust issues from being with the problem (and in a lot of relationships both people were problems....few marriages end maturely and amicably)

Out the gate, I had a friends with benefits relationship with someone I met online which was really just what I needed following the divorce....it was CRAZY fun for awhile. Kind of transported back to my 20s

Serious dating was much harder. Women can call men shallow all they want, but the number of women out there who won't talk to you unless you are at least 6ft tall is pretty damned high (I am average height) and there are tons of women with heavily edited photos (I am sure there are men who do the same, but then I wasn't looking at male profiles so I don't have any basis for a comparison). Certainly didn't do my self esteem any favors to go on dates and get walked out on because I was still walking with a cane at the time either following my hit and run and spine surgeries (at the time, I had no expectations from my doctors of ever walking on my own again).

Met someone on Bumble who lives in Mandeville (I live in the Denham area) in late September of 2023 and I was absolutely certain as I was driving to the North Shore for our first date that I would get there and find that she looked nothing like her pictures and fortunately I was wrong

We took things pretty slow....the phone numbers we exchanged early were burner numbers gotten from Google. I didn't meet either of her daughters until we decided to try being exclusive about 3-4 months later (I don't have any children). We just celebrated our first Christmas together and are planning to move in together now.

And now that I have publicly stated how well things are going I fully expect to find out that she is in a satanic cult and I'm being groomed for a ritual sacrifice

I agree with you.....that's just dumb of him and I'm sure it would get worse. I do give him props for walking up and starting the conversation but it could also mean he's just dumb in general.

I have not been on the apps in yearssss but based on comments from female friends and colleagues who are, the men post pictures from over a decade ago when they were 25 lbs or more lighter, hairline still existed -or- post pics with giant fish, group pics and you can't tell which one is them, or them with their kids to appeal to women looking for a "good father" (totally weird to me to put minor children on blast like that but whatevs).

When I did Facebook Dating I put up no pics of kids. I put up one taken after running a 5k, a post-gym picture (shirt on), a beach picture (shirt on) and a work pic with my ID showing so they know I was genuine.
I joked that it would be helpful if maybe I put up a few more pics where I had actually showered that day, lol.
