Dating (1 Viewer)

Also, I was doing this stuff that @bclemms is doing. That’s how I ended up married. Was traveling in South America with my then best friend & my ex husband was a friend of her family (she was from South America too which is what took us there). He had just gotten back after living in London for 3 years. We would meet up on trips, visit each other, etc. stupid in lust and didn’t want to be apart. It likely would have died a natural death over time due to distance under normal circumstances but then my dad passed away unexpectedly and not long after, we decided getting married was a good idea 🤦🏻‍♀️

Then, once we settled into regular married life in the same house and country, all the novelty of this foreign person wore off & you discover people are the same everywhere & we ended up with the same problems every couple has & likely would have broken up before marrying if we had been able to date while living separately in the same city and doing normal dating in lieu of honeymoon trips.

When I judge y’all, just know that I was once y’all. I just know better now.
Thus piteously Love closed what he begat:
The union of this ever-diverse pair!
These two were rapid falcons in a snare,
Condemned to do the flitting of the bat.
Lovers beneath the singing sky of May,
They wandered once; clear as the dew on flowers:
But they fed not on the advancing hours:
Their hearts held cravings for the buried day.
Then each applied to each that fatal knife,
Deep questioning, which probes to endless dole.
Ah, what a dusty answer gets the soul
When hot for certainties in this our life!—
In tragic hints here see what evermore
Moves dark as yonder midnight ocean's force,
Thundering like ramping hosts of warrior horse,
To throw that faint thin line upon the shore!

I’ve never been married and completely agree. The problem I do see on the horizon is the government requiring us to get married to be together in the US. That is a bridge I dont have to cross for a long time and I’ll have prenups from here to Hong Kong if that would take place.

This is also where this thread intersects with the retiring abroad thread.
Yup, there is going to be a correlation between dating and retiring abroad. Right now I'll settle for dating a broad :run:

I'll show myself out...

If I were to ever be divorced, I would just be alone for the rest of my life and focus on my adult kids. I can't imagine dating anyone at this time. Judging by my wife's friends who are around our age who are single, beaches be crazy.

I’m learning that white men on this forum have a thing for Asian women.

I never did until I started seeing this girl (long distance I was at UNO she was at UMD) that was half Irish and half Korean.....We visited each other for weeks at a time between 1987-88, I was getting ready to graduate and move away from NOLA (and ironically wound up in MD) and she wanted to move in with me.....wherever I went, I wasn't ready.....it wasn't a mistake per se, I have no complaints....She was a great girl, funny/smart, already had her degree, it's just the timing wasn't right.....ever since her I admit I do find Asian women.....attractive....

Terp would know where I met here (at UMD's infamous dive bar back in the day).....

Also, I take at least 2 showers a day....FWIW (nothing)

The 'Vous, the Cellar, or the Back Room? My money's on the 'Vous. AKA Rendezvous Inn. Greatest dive bar ever.

Apropos of nothing, the stale beer on the floor of the 'Vous was called vousdous :hihi:

I have 2 good friends (female) who are both half Asian. One is half Korean and the other Japanese. Both of them have Asian moms and white dads.

She had a white dad and an asian mom if memory serves, she definitely looked more asian than irish, she was very cute and almost always happy/positive..... I do wonder what happened to her.....

Yeah, I see that a lot more of that than the other way around. Interesting. My kids growing up would occasionally get questions about where they're from since they look more like my wife than me, heh. Good too cuz I ain't pretty. :hihi:

I dated a woman who was 1/4 Korean, 1/4 Japanese and 1/2 Mexican
and seemingly the Korean + Japanese thing was very much a Romeo & Juliet story

This thread is interesting in that it illustrates how many apparently universal normal people things I've never dealt with.

What a bizarre anti-life I've led.

What is the percentage breakdown of "wow, I really missed out on those things" vs. "whew, bullet dodged"?
