Derek Carr the target of parade float “joke” (1 Viewer)

I've never been to New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Company. Is that a good chain restaurant?

The one on Vets near the Kenner line was great, may still be. When we drove from MD to Nola for the holidays 20 years or so ago my dad would pick us up shrimp poboys from there. They weren't Parkway or Bears quality but they were quite good....

despite the defense crapping the bed against the Rams…

The defense, really? You mean that DC led offense that was stuck on 7 points until the game was well in hand with 6 minutes left? Offense scores a whopping 7 points in 3.5 quarters of football and the D crapped the bed? That's some powerful delusion there....

They weren't out of the playoffs until after the last game was played.
They never controlled their destiny with that record. It was let's wait and see. I think Cam said if we want to get in the playoffs, we need to be a 10+ win team; that's been the threshold for a while. now.

First Rams drive: 14 plays 95 yards, TD
Second Rams drive: 7 plays 50 yards FG
Third Rams drive: 9 plays, 40 yards: missed FG
Fourth Rams drive: 3 plays, 2 yards, punt
Fifth Rams drive: 5 plays, 58 yards, TD
Sixth Rams drive: 10 plays, 72 yards, FG
Seventh Rams drive: 5 plays, 41 yards, TD
Eighth Rams drive: 9 plays, 56 yards FG
Ninth Rams drive: 4 plays, 10 yards, punt
Tenth Rams drive: 5 plays, 19 yards, end of game

Tell me I’m delusional again

This is nothing new, they picked on Zion in 2022, I believe.
They picked on everyone and everything.

Carr took it in stride.

As far as what people think nationally?
A few years ago when the white lady riding in Zulu took heat nationally for wearing blackface, Zulu leaders came out and said something like “this is Mardi Gras, its put on by New Orleanians for New Orleanians, any opinion from someone outside of New Orleans means nothing because you know nothing”

Please point me to the Chaos float that made fun of Drew Brees for having a weak arm his last few years. Or any number of floats that could've been dedicated to any number of disappointing Saints over the years.

I appreciate a joke as much as anyone I know but I think some things are off limits.
You and I both know that Carr took he high road on the issue. That was the only public response he could give. You and I also know what he probably said in the privacy of his home.
But the thing is we definitely don’t “know” what he “probably” said about it in the privacy of his home.

Why can’t we take his comment as genuine and playing on the fun/humor/zaniness of Mardi Gras?

If anything, I think Carr might have gained fans over this. And the important thing to remember is that he is not the 1st New Orleans/Louisiana athlete this float thing has happened to. He wasn’t even the only one during that parade.

Kind of hard to score points when your defense is on the field the entire time. Not giving a complete pass to the offense in the game, but this drive summary is pretty damning for the defense.

Not to get too far off topic but we do not discuss the defense nearly enough on this board. It’s like we assume they’re going to be fine next season, but they had some major flaws last year that need to be fixed.

No I don't know that. I take people at their word. And I think he meant it because it's a stupid joke in the satirical spirit of Mardi Gras.

An image of him looking like a zombie playing QB because he was so beat up early in the season and a criticism of his play in the red zone. Do you really think Carr hasn't heard that before when he has struggled in the red zone for his entire career? Do you really think he's such a delicate snowflake that he can't take it as the joke it was intended to be? He had to deal with the team that drafted him releasing him and his family had to hear all the things said when that was about to happen. Do you really think a cartoonish image on a float is going to bother him or them?

It's so strange that nobody takes offense at all the other satirical floats about various other people during Mardi Gras, but people lose it when there is criticism about how a guy plays a game.

Mathematically yes, but we never fully recovered from that GB game. Everyone knew that that game was going to bite us. Looking back, we can say that our season was over then, bc we didn’t do what we needed to after that game. We kept losing important games.
I don't deny that. I'm just saying they still had something to play for despite the odds. The GB game was probably the most significant loss of the season, but I'd argue the Rams game was just as consequential. That was closer to the end of the season and took the team out of the driver's seat for the division title.

The idea that Carr was stat padding as the poster I was addressing alluded to is complete nonsense.

You and I don't know that. That's strictly your opinion. No one here knows what he thinks in the privacy of his own home. I'd rather not presume to know what someone else is thinking.

This is just not true, they would have controlled their destiny and did control their destiny before and during the Rams game.

The revisionist history drives me nuts.

I’m not saying that the defense played incredibly well in that game, but 4/6 of the Rams scoring drives were after we turned the ball over or failed to convert on 4th down.

After their opening drive, the Rams average td scoring drives were 49 yards and total scoring drives averaged 55 yards.

These don’t seem too bad (defensively) to me, but maybe I’m wrong. I don’t know exactly how long the average scoring drive is. I just thought the 4th down/turnover thing stood out.

Yep it's solid New Orleans style food. It's not amazing for here, but it's pretty good and would probably be the best mid-level restaurant in town in many places.

Those are short fields for sure, but if the defense is giving up touchdowns, why would you think the Rams offense wouldn’t have been able to drive an extra 10 or 20 yards? The endzone is the only thing that stopped those drives.

I'll add that they had to play the Rams game on a short week where they had to travel to the West Coast. That meant no time to really study film on the McVay offense or make a game plan specific to what McVay was doing this year.

It doesn't excuse getting beaten badly, but the defense did okay all things considered.
