Derek Carr - Why People Dislike Him (IMO) (1 Viewer)

The obvious solution to me is a complete reset this off-season with a new head coach that is 1. offensive minded and 2. commands the respect of the players.
This. 1000 times this. Nothing changes until this happens. There is no player we can sign (or cut) or draft that will have greater impact than this.

People dislike him because he hasn't played well. They may say it's about his "attitude" or whatever, but none of them would care about him getting upset with players if he were playing like Mahomes or Brady or Rodgers, or any number of QBs who often got on their own players during games.

Yep. If he was balling and we were winning games while he’s doing these things, he’d be getting hailed for his “leadership.”

Carr is the typical athlete who cannot take any blame for any of his failures. He is always looking to blame someone else. The sooner he is gone, the better. Signing him may turn out to be one of the biggest mistakes this regime has made.

Cart’s that dude who hacks you to pieces when he’s guarding you in pickup bball, but will immediately call a foul if you get in smelling distance of him

He might not have always been like this - end of his tenure with Raiders might have done some lasting psychic damage
He might have even corrected a bit if PC and the Oline had done better at beginning of season
But now that he’s in full ‘it’s everyone else’s fault’ mode, he’s becoming one of my least favorite saints ever

Well it's easier to take when the team is winning

However when the team sucks and the $50 million quarterback is not putting up $50 million stats or winning , it's easy to point the finger at the douchebag who's making other players yell at him.

Look at Aaron Rodgers, he comes across as enormous douchebag, but he is a winner

I guarantee you if he's putting up the numbers that Derek Carr was putting up, not many people would put up with his attitude.

It's as simple as that.
Rodgers would probably have a longer leash because of his past success, but it wouldn’t go on forever. Meanwhile, Carr seems to have a history of always being a piece away from being a top QB, so I don’t think fans have the patience to wait for him to get yet another coach/receiver/whatever to get him over the line.

Also, it’s ridiculous for fans to compare Carr to Mahomes, when one has never won a playoff game and the other is a two-time Super Bowl MVP. I’ve also seen Carr compared to Manning and Brady, two first ballot HOF QB’s. He doesn’t have anywhere near the track record to barge in the door and tell everyone else that they aren’t doing what it takes to win when he isn’t playing at a high level.

Carr has plenty of flaws, but I think he gets way too much hate and blame.

Drew Brees ruined this franchise forever.

He is the gold standard for competitiveness, leadership, hard work, dedication, and winning.

No one else will ever live up to Drew, and some segment of our fanbase will have vitriol for whoever we have under center, because they too, will fall short of the standards that Drew set.

I have worked at the same company now for 23 years.

During my tenure, i have had about 4-6 "bosses" come and go. Some i connected with immediately. Some took some time and 1-2 i never really felt "comfortable" with ( with regards to my ability/performance )

Those 2 i can assure you were intimidated by my tenure and my ability. They didnt have either, and while i tried to placate that aspect, it was THEY who could never come to terms with it and over time created a bit of a disconnect.

I say all this because we have some guys in the locker room that was here for SP/Drew. They grew accustomed to what was asked of them, both verbally and non-verbally. Sometimes just a look can tell you all you need to know.

We are mired in a situation where the new "manager" isnt the old "manager" in both style, charisma and accomplishments. The expermiment is over. Attempting to "recreate" that atmosphere ( re: Loomis talking about "continuity" at DA hire ) with a staff that DOESNT have the same gravitas was wrong.

Until ML realizes this was the wrong move, this is where we are.

He doesn’t have anywhere near the track record to barge in the door and tell everyone else that they aren’t doing what it takes to win when he isn’t playing at a high level.

Nor should he have been asked to.

Thats the HC job.

Our top brass made some mistakes. Own them. Make the proper moves and redeem them. We are a forgiving bunch IF YOU ACKNOWLEDGE the mistake.

But if you attempt to pawn it off on "someone else", then be prepared for the blowback.

So if Carr did what Mahomes did Last night, people from this board would want him publicly hanged.
See, that's the thing, Mahomes' anger was directed towards the refs eventhough I believe it was a culmination of his frustrations with his receivers leading the league in drops. He probably doesn't even realize that his actions towards the refs were off target because he's not that guy. Carr has repeatedly shown that he is.

Completely agree. And i feel like he is who he is...Does anyone think he's going to suddenly change how he's always been?

I think the very best thing we could do would be to start cutting the dead weight (DA, Pete, Carr..) and get a good rookie QB in the draft.

I don't have my hopes up that will happen soon, but I feel like those are part of the steps to getting out of this quagmire. There is no solution where we get back to pre-DA Saints football without cleaning shop.

Because he's a phony and it's very easy to see through

Cart’s that dude who hacks you to pieces when he’s guarding you in pickup bball, but will immediately call a foul if you get in smelling distance of him

You’re correct In everything accept you’re making an exception to the player that has more wins. The old man ref deserved the rage coming from Mahomes? Imagine if his team wasn’t holding him back. I can’t see Carr brutally beating an old man. Or even getting nice to nose yelling at him.

Ill also add that the "theme" we were sold ( us fans ) by both the Saints and media entering this season was that Carr was that missing piece. That he was going to lead us to a great offensive year and that our D was going to hold up its end.

We bought it. All of it. from the "continuity" angle to the "what can be". We didnt pay attention to past historical notes. Facts. An aging defense in key positions. Facts. We wanted to look past that to regain our rightful place among the leagues top performers. We looked past the deficiencies of DA as a HC. The fact that PC originally TURNED DOWN the OC offer.

We missed it all because of our fandom. So in some small way, we too are responsible for our angst.

Agree but for me they kind of go hand in hand. It’s not just that he has played poorly, and it’s not just that he blames other players, for me it’s seeing the leadership (or in this case lack thereof) from a QB who’s team is losing. It’s seeing how he handles adversity, and truth be told it’s really disappointing.

Would I care less about his demeanor if we were winning? Of course, because the locker room would be united as they too would be seeing the results of that particular brand of leadership. But what we’re seeing is an increasingly frustrated locker room, a continuation of miscommunication and disconnect with the offense, and a losing record.

Now, do I think the solution is benching Carr? Not necessarily, not yet, the solution - as many have pointed out - I think is in the coaching. If our players were better prepared, if the gameplan was even just adequate, I think everyone - Carr included - would be set up better for success.

13 of 20, 37 yards, 1 int.

These were Carr's stats mid way through the 4th quarter before the long pass to Perry. That's enough for me to dislike him. BUT, you throw in his attitude and propensity to constantly call out his teammates during the game, and I've reached the point where I can't wait until the day he's no longer in the building.

I’ll say this again, people don’t like him because he seems fake. Almost like an actor playing in NFL quarterback. Then comments like we know what wrong but we’re not telling you and then going out the next week and having the same issues over and over and over again. He also seems like a little bit of a crybaby. Tom Brady was a crybaby, there’s nothing wrong with that, but Derrick Carr doesn’t have seven Super Bowl rings

I remember Drew being upset with receivers for running the wrong routes.
Is this not what we've seen Carr do?
He got mad at AT Perry for stopping on a route. He got mad at Olave for not taking the top off the defense.

He didn't get angry with Moreau for dropping that pass in the corner of the endzone, or Shaheed for not coming u with that pass on the goalline vs ATL.

I don't particularly like Carr. He seems too rehearsed to me.
But, and maybe I've missed it, I don't see him jumping on other players for physical mistakes. It seems to be more for mental/lack of effort mistakes.
